Someone messaged me privately to ask about my journey, and to say how I had inspired them to work in pelvic health.
It’s 20 years this year since I started formally working within this fascinating area…my interest was actually sparked by a placement in women’s health whilst still at university. My supervisors were just so passionate and inspiring, I loved working with them and they are the reason I am in this area today!
Once qualified, I quickly specialised in this area, a bit of luck as a physio was retiring so I offered to help in the area and I never looked back. Again I was lucky to enough to be mentored by others who were knowledgeable and inspiring.
These first few years were full of enjoyable, yet hard, work and determination. Determination to be the best I could be for my patients (this still fuels me now)
I attended many many courses, I shadowed different clinicians (gynaecologists, midwives, health visitors, urologists, specialist nurses, physios), I watched baby’s being born, I watched surgery and I read papers and books and journals.
I studied at Bradford University and gained my Postgraduate certificate in Women’s Health Physiotherapy in 2009
I also became team leader for the local NHS pelvic health physio team in 2009
This was a challenge but I was ready for it and I grew a lot as a physio but also as a person during these years. I not only developed clinically, but also had to develop from a business and people management point of view (some steep learning curves!)
I had babies in 2009, 2011 and 2016 and during my 3rd pregnancy I was really very poorly and diagnosed with Chron’s disease. My whole world was turned upside down. Juggling young children, a career and a long term health condition was tough.
But it taught me things I couldn’t have learned elsewhere about healthcare, and ultimately has helped shape me as a clinician even further.
I have since left the NHS and created my business, it is something I love and take great pride in. Although of course it has come with its own set of lessons!!

Yesterday I enjoyed an afternoon well spent! A really informative and enjoyable CPD session with at her gorgeous practice centre. We covered so much around women’s health. I am passionate about ensuring that I keep up to date with sound researcher practices so I know what I am delivering to you is the best I can give and am confident to signpost when needed. Having the opportunity to learn from is just amazing. I wish everyone could get an MOT at different life stages and feel confident and comfortable to know how to maintain and improve their pelvic health. If you can I recommend you go to she is just wonderful. We also spent some time cooking up an exciting upcoming workshop for Pregnancy and Postnatal people with their partners…..it’s going to be soooooo good 🙌🔥🙌 I didn’t get a picture of us together so you have a lovely handouts 😂♥️
