Essential Maintenance Work
The front entrance at Nettleham will be unavailable from Tuesday - Friday this week due to essential repairs that need to be carried out. Therefore, all patients will need to access the building via the Lindsey Lodge entrance which can be located at the rear of the building.

Everyone can take part - there is no upper or lower age limit but we do ask you limit it to one kit per household.

Yesterday (Monday 13 April), the threshold for the home-testing kit for bowel cancer screening in Lincolnshire was lowered.

The home-testing kit, known as the faecal immunochemical test (FIT), is offered to all people over 50 years old and checks for blood in a small stool sample.

NHS England announced the change to the national programme in January 2026, and estimates the change could help detect around 600 more bowel cancers early each year in England – around an 11% increase. It also estimates the change will find 2,000 more people with high-risk polyps in their bowel, allowing patients to have preventative treatment before any cancers develop.

Kirstie Cartledge, Lead Specialist Screening Practitioner at United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Our Lincolnshire Bowel Cancer Screening team are excited to be part of the Wave 1 roll out of this change, launching in April 2026.

“This lower threshold for testing will capture more bowel cancers, where you might be showing no symptoms even earlier. We hope this will support improved outcomes for Lincolnshire’s residents.

“If you get a test kit in the post, please complete and return it - it can truly be a lifesaver.”

The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in Lincolnshire offers screening every two years to everyone aged 50 to 74 who is registered with a GP.

Those eligible will be automatically contacted through the post with their invitation to take part in bowel cancer screening.

People aged over 74 can request a screening kit by calling the free phone helpline 0800 707 6060.

Spring Covid Vaccinations
The practice will be starting to send out unique booking links to patients this week for those who are eligible for the spring covid vaccination. Various clinics are being held both during the week and on a Saturday throughout April & May 2026, starting from 18th April 2026.

Eligible cohorts are:

* Residents in a care home
* Patients aged 75 and over (or turn 75 before 30.6.2026)
* Severely immunocompromised patients aged 6 months - 74 years of age.

Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly.
The news of the outbreak in Kent is really sad and understandably some patients are worried.
The practice can only offer vaccinations to patients who fall into the eligible cohorts which are:

Men B vaccine is offered at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 1 year of age. Babies can be offered missed vaccinations up to 2 years of age.

Men ACWY vaccine is given to children in school in School Year 9 (13 or 14 years of age). Those who missed immunisation can receive the vaccination up to 25 years of age from their GP Practice.

If you fall into one of the two cohorts above, them please contact the practice and we will book you an appointment.

If you do not fall into one of the above cohorts, then please do not contact the practice asking for vaccination as we will not be able to provide it. There are private providers who will administer the vaccination.
