Client Spotlight - Nikki

Nikki is running the London Marathon in 2026 in support of Children with Cancer UK

Nikki is working incredibly hard at overcoming some aches, pains and injuries and improving her performance, for such a great cause.

“I’ve never been a runner. I hate it and find it really tough. The furthest I’ve ever managed to run is 10k, and that was over three years ago. But in April this year, I found myself signing up for the London Marathon.

Why did I decide to take on this challenge if I dislike running so much? In May 2021, my little boy, Finlay, was diagnosed with a Wilms tumour, a rare type of childhood cancer, at just seven years old. After being in remission twice, his cancer sadly returned for a final time in July 2024, and we lost our beautiful boy in March this year. Despite everything he went through, Finlay faced each challenge with incredible bravery and determination.

So, I’m taking on the London Marathon in April 2026 to honour Finlay’s strength, courage, bravery and determination. Fighting cancer is tough. Much tougher than running the London Marathon. And if children like Finlay can fight cancer with bravery and courage, then I can do this, in Finlay’s memory and for children fighting the same battle every day.

I will be running for the charity Children with Cancer UK. When Finlay grew up he wanted to be a scientist and help to invent machinery and find treatments that are much kinder on children fighting cancer, so they wouldn’t have to endure the same harsh side effects that he had to go through every day. This is one of the aims of Children with Cancer UK, and I am determined to raise as much money for this amazing charity to fulfil Finlay’s dream.”

Education is the key to consistent progress & empowerment!

Progressive overload = gradually increasing the demands placed on your body over time.
It’s the key to improving strength, mobility, and rehab outcomes safely and effectively.

You can apply it by adjusting:

🔹 Load: Lifting heavier weight
🔹 Volume: More reps or sets
🔹 Range of Motion: Moving further or deeper
🔹 Frequency: Training more often
🔹 Rest: Shortening rest between sets
🔹 Complexity: Making movements more challenging
💡 Why it matters:

Without progression, your body adapts and stops improving.

With it, you keep getting stronger, moving better, and recovering smarter.

Alison has joined the team to take on home visit Physiotherapy appointments for us.

I am a physiotherapist with more than 30 years of experience, qualified in 1987 at the Middlesex Hospital School of Physiotherapy, London. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (MCSP) and the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

My early career was spent specialising in Paediatric Rheumatology at the National Clinical Research Centre at Northwick Park Hospital Harrow, where I worked alongside Dr. Barbara Ansell and her successor, Professor Patricia Woo. During this time, I also developed a strong interest in sports medicine, gaining experience at the British Olympic Medical Centre at Northwick Park and in private practice within a sports injury clinic.

Following a career break to raise four children and a move to the New Forest, my professional focus shifted towards working with the older population. I became passionate about promoting exercise and functional independence in later years, aiming to support individuals in maintaining mobility, confidence, and quality of life.

Over the years, I have worked in a range of settings, including musculoskeletal outpatients within the NHS, Community Physiotherapy, Palliative care in a Hospice environment, and as a Physiotherapy Associate in private practice. I support individuals in their homes or care setting who are recovering post-operatively, those with reduced mobility, and those who may have lost confidence in their ability to move safely and independently.

My approach centres on offering support, guidance, and encouragement, using tailored exercise and engaging activities. My ultimate aim is to help people achieve and enjoy functional independence, whatever that may look like for each individual.
