Primary Care Service Patient Update

As we approach the winter months GP practices across the West Berkshire area have been working together to develop plans to ensure we are able to make the most of general practice appointments over this period.

A new Same Day Access (SDA) service is now available to patients in West Berkshire. The purpose of the service is to provide on the day remote telephone consultations for patients aged 1 year and over who have been identified by the GP practice as suitable for a remote consultation. If following the remote consultation it is felt that you need to have a face to face follow up appointment this will be arranged.

The new service will provide an additional 22 appointments per day across our three practices which means more appointments will be available for patients with minor ailments which will help us to ensure we are making the best use of our GP time and to improve access to care for all our patients.

The A34 PCN is proud to announce that all three of its practices are now registered as Parkrun Practices and as a result we are now a Parkrun PCN. We will be promoting Parkrun within each of our practices and will be supporting the new Parkrun at Victoria Park in Newbury which takes place every Saturday morning. We will be hosting a Parkrun 'Takeover' in the new year so watch this space for details.

If you haven't already registered with Parkrun now is the time do so. Once registered you can not only access the two Newbury runs but also any of the runs right across the country. You can register at https://www.parkrun.org.uk

Participating in Parkrun not only benefits both you physical and mental health it also provides and opportunity to create social connections and helps to build a strong sense of community. The runs are supported by an army of volunteers who are there to help and support you and are accessible to all ages and abilities.
