There’s a common idea that we should push through when we feel tired or stiff, but often the opposite is true. Our bodies change from day to day, especially if we are managing a long-term condition.
Being mindful of how you feel and adjusting your activity accordingly isn't giving up. It's a smart way to stay active for the long term. Choosing a gentler path on more challenging days helps prevent injury and keeps movement feeling like a positive part of your day.

"I decided that there was nothing to be lost from giving MOVEability a try. I am so grateful that I took that first step!"
Margaret joined our Parkinson's-specific sessions and found that participating entirely seated didn't mean missing out in any way. She describes the classes as a joy and delight that provide vital exercise, with clear instructions and the right music to match. As she says, Debbie is a wonderfully enthusiastic teacher – cheerful, encouraging, and engaging – and the sessions are for anyone, whatever their state of physical health or ability.
Our next class in partnership with the Newbury and District branch of Parkinson's UK is this coming Friday, 11 am at The Bowler's Arms in Newbury. If you’ve been thinking about joining us, we’d love to see you there.
Your FIRST class is FREE. Book via the links, OR for in-person classes, simply turn up and pay on the door (if not your first class). FREE cuppa & biscuit afterward. Just bring a bottle of water and a smile!
Looking after ourselves involves staying connected to the people around us, just as much as maintaining our physical health and fitness. ☕
A quick chat with a neighbour, a shared laugh, or a simple "how are you doing?" can lift the spirits just as much as a walk in the fresh air. Or some seated chair exercise! Taking a moment to reach out and connect reminds us that we aren’t alone, and that sense of belonging is vital for our overall wellbeing. 💙

A heartfelt thank you! ☕✨
It was so wonderful to catch up with a number of you this morning at our Cuppa & A Chat session at The Hidden Gem Cafe – thank you for hosting us!
Having time on our side allowed us to really get to know everyone better, and we are so grateful for the honest feedback and brilliant ideas you shared to help shape the future of MOVEability.
Here’s what we heard from you:
💙Move More at Home: There was an interest in more stretching exercises to help manage cramps between classes. Watch this space for our Move More cards.
💙Connecting with Technology: You'd like us to consider running basic technology sessions to help everyone stay digitally connected. Is this something Connecting Communities in Berkshire might like to help us with?
💙The Power of Numbers: Some of you suggested using numbers when referring to the different movement combos might be easier to follow than words.
💙Name Badges: A simple but great suggestion for our gatherings to help us all remember names as our community grows.
💙Expanding our Horizons: You’re keen to meet more people through interesting talks. Retirement Rebels were mentioned as an option 😀. Any other ideas?
💙Flexibility is Key: We’re so glad you love the variety from where we've been mixing up the sessions each week!
We also had some great chats about our ongoing "Move More Cards" project, which will provide tips on integrating class exercises into your daily life.
What’s Next? Due to popular demand, we are planning a follow-up Cuppa & A Chat on a Monday to make sure those who couldn't make it this time can join in the conversation.
Couldn't make it today but would rather not wait until the next session? Add your suggestions in the comments or pop them in a email and send to info@moveability.org.uk
Thank you for being such an active part of our community. Your voice is what makes MOVEability special! Debbie Medlin & Debbie Mumford 🙏

We often measure progress by big milestones, but sometimes the most important changes are the ones no one else sees. It might be reaching for a cupboard with a bit more ease, or feeling a little steadier while out and about. 🌿
These "quiet wins" are the real building blocks of keeping or reclaiming our independence. They remind us that moving a little bit every day isn't just about fitness. It’s about feeling capable and at home in our own bodies.

After treating yourself this Easter weekend, it's natural to turn your thoughts towards healthier routines. While people join our classes for many reasons, weight management can be a goal – and your chair can actually be a "secret weapon" for this.🪑
By building gentle muscle mass and boosting your heart rate, seated exercise helps the body burn more calories even at rest. 👌
