This World Diabetes Day, Diabetes UK are challenging the stigma surrounding diabetes and encouraging people to reflect on how they talk about the condition.

Diabetes UK found that, across the UK, over 8 in 10 people with type 1 and over 7 in 10 people with type 2 diabetes say they experience blame and judgement for their condition. It is important that we are all conscious of how the things we say impact others, because our words matter. Together, we can and help improve the lives of those living with diabetes.

To mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, our residents have taken part in memorial services across the country to honour those who served and continue to serve our country. For many of our residents, these dates hold personal significance and provide the opportunity to not only honour their own past, loved ones and friends, but also share memories of such an important part of their lives.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

Lest we forget ❤️

Today, our residents and staff attended The Act of Remembrance at The Church of St George the Martyr, Wash Common, Newbury. Our veterans from our home were able to lay their remembrance wreath alongside The Rainbows, Scouts, Girl Guides and other community groups.

It was a lovely service followed by tea and biscuits in the Church Hall, where we were able to chat about our memories and the service.

Thank you to St. George for including our home in the service today.

Our 4th Porthaven PXP Value today "Responsibility" was celebrated with a cake in the shape of Falkland Grange Care Home, Newbury at Tea @ 3. Our resident obviously has been working out in the gym and it took a might push to get the knife through the cake to serve ! We had a interesting discussion on what we considered important and responsible job roles in the community - of which police officer, doctor, nurse, care workers, paramedics, garbage collectors were just a few mentioned - we then discussed their average yearly wages according to Indeed webpage and our residents were surprised at the salaries for emergency services that put their lives at risk for our community. This then sparked a conversation of our responsibilities of our staff and residents in the home. We finally agreed that the residents were the most important members of Falkland Grange but we needed to take responsibility to look after each other! The hospitality team and laundry team also made a great impact on the discussion. Of course no hospitality team no cake! It has been a pleasure celebrating our PXP Values of our exceptional staff and residents.

The lovely ladies Meryl and Louise from the Newbury Soup Kitchen came to Falkland Grange Care Home, Newbury for Tea @ 3 with our residents.

Our Home Manager, Rebecca, presented our food drive donations collected by our residents, family members, staff and visitors to our home.

During the visit, Meryl, the founder of Newbury Soup Kitchen, thrilled us with the details of the presentation of her MBE, when she was honoured in the King's Birthday Honours List for her services to the Newbury community. Well done, and what an achievement. We also discussed how we might better support the charity and what their obstacles are.

Thank you, ladies, for coming to our home - and thank you to everyone who contributed to our collection. Meryl promised on her next visit she would bring in her MBE - we can't wait!
