πŸŽ—οΈRare Disease Day 2026 πŸŽ—οΈ
Today is Rare Disease Day, we stand with the 300 million people worldwide living with a rare disease, along with their families, carers and healthcare teams. This global awareness-raising campaign works to shine a light on rare conditions, improve understanding, and call for better access to diagnosis, treatment and care for everyone affected.

🌍 What is Rare Disease Day?
Observed every year on the last day of February, Rare Disease Day was launched in 2008 and has grown into an international movement uniting people, organisations and healthcare professionals to advocate for equality in health and social support for people with rare diseases.

πŸ’‘ Why it matters:
β€’ There are thousands of rare diseases, and most have limited information or treatments available.
β€’ Many people face delays in diagnosis, barriers to specialist care, and challenges in everyday life.
β€’ Awareness helps reduce isolation, support research, strengthen services and influence policy.

πŸ“£ How you can take part:
βœ” Learn more about rare conditions and share reliable information with others.
βœ” Show your support on social media with .
βœ” Listen to and elevate the voices of people living with rare diseases.
βœ” Encourage understanding, inclusion and equitable healthcare for all.

Why do vegetables matter?πŸ₯¦
Eating more vegetables is so important for your health!

Vegetables are an important part of a balanced diet. They provide vitamins, minerals and fibre, which help support digestion, heart health and the immune system.

Eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day may help reduce the risk of long-term conditions such as heart disease, stroke and some cancers. At least 3 of these portions should be vegetables.

πŸ₯• What does a portion of vegetables look like?
For adults, one portion of vegetables is around 80g. Examples include:
β€’ 3 heaped tablespoons of cooked vegetables
β€’ 2 broccoli spears
β€’ 8 cauliflower florets
β€’ A 5cm piece of cucumber.

For children, a portion is roughly the amount they can fit in their hand. Small amounts throughout the day all count

🩺 It’s never too late to get screened for bowel cancer!
We want to remind all patients that early detection saves lives. Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, but when caught early through screening, treatment is more effective and outcomes are better.

If you’re 50 or older, or have a family history of bowel cancer, completing your screening test is an important step toward protecting your health. Screening is simple, safe, and can be done in the comfort of your home.

We are proud to support the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. By taking part, you’re not only looking after yourself, but also helping raise awareness in our community.
πŸ’¬ Need help or didn’t receive your kit?

Call the Bowel Cancer Screening Helpline on 0800 707 6060. The team can guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

βœ… Why screening matters:
β€’ Detects cancer early, when treatment is more effective.
β€’ Can catch changes before they become cancer.
β€’ Protects your future and gives peace of mind.
Thank you to everyone who has already taken the test, your action is helping save lives!

For information on taking the test, visit: https://www.nhs.uk/tests-and-treatments/bowel-cancer-screening/

Get screened, protect your future, and help us make a difference, together, we can beat bowel cancer. πŸ’™
