Bsc (Hons) Pharmacology and Physiology
Postgrad Diploma Nutrition and Dietetics

Rachel has an Honours degree in Pharmacology and Physiology and has had over 20 years experience in the NHS and private practice as a health professional.

She has completed Ear Anatomy and Otoscopy courses and is trained in both Microsuction and Electronic Irrigation methods of ear wax removal.

Rachel provides a friendly, professional service helping you feel at ease whilst assessing your ear canal before discussing the most appropriate method of ear wax removal for you. She looks forward to meeting you at our Jesmond Clinic.

✨Gill Robinson ✨

BSc Nursing, RGN, NDN (Retired)

Gill started her 40-year Nursing career in Newcastle, training across the 3 main Newcastle Hospitals from 1983-86. Qualifying in 1986 she worked as an RGN at Newcastle General Hospital in medicine and coronary care before going back to study to become a District Nurse in 1989. Most of her career has been spent in the Community working starting as a District Nurse and then Nurse Practitioner, working across a wide area including, General Practice, Nursing Homes, Care Homes and Community Clinics as well as the individuals own home. During this time, she has developed extensive knowledge and practice in ear wax removal.

MICROSUCTION 👂

Microsuction is a gentle, pain-free process involving a low pressure suction pump, a bit like a vacuum cleaner, to loosen and remove impacted ear wax.

We use microscopic glasses to look more closely at the ear canal and enable us to guide a very thin nozzle gently into the ear.

Gentle suction is used to loosen any wax, skin and debris and syphon it from the ear.

Microsuction is one of the methods we use .

What happens at an appointment?

At Newcastle Ear Wax Removal we use 2 methods of earwax removal – microsuction and electronic irrigation.

An ear wax removal appointment lasts approximately 30 minutes, depending on the extent of the wax and whether you need removal from one or both ears.

Our practitioner will ask some questions to find out more about the health of your ears and examine both using an otoscope (a magnifying lens with a light).

They will check your outer ear, ear canal and ear drum, and assess the best method of removal, if it is necessary. They will talk you through the procedure, so you know what to expect before commencing with treatment.

WHAT IS EAR WAX?

👂Ear wax is completely normal and helps to keep the inside of our ears healthy by protecting them from dirt and germs

👂It migrates naturally out of the ear on its own, helping to keep the ear clean, but can often build up or get trapped leading to a blockage

👂When ear wax builds up, it can cause problems, such as:

• A feeling of fullness in the ear
• Muffled sounds or partial hearing loss
• Mild tinnitus (ringing in the ear)
• Ear discomfort or earache
• Balance problems, dizziness or vertigo
