Thank you to the incredible jurors, speakers, and exhibitors who joined the Citizens’ Jury Pain Management Event! 🙌

❓ Earlier this year, we asked a jury of 14 members of the public: “How can we shift away from medical intervention to better support people living with persistent pain?”

Yesterday, we shared their recommendations for further feedback and discussion.

Speakers highlighted the challenges of current pain management, the need to treat pain as a long-term condition, and the importance of system-level reform rather than blaming individuals. Juror Lynn Laidler reminded us that “choice is a privilege.”

We hope these recommendations are taken forward by the regional healthcare system, helping to ensure that people living with persistent pain have a say in their care and that services are truly co-produced to improve outcomes and quality of life.

Earlier today at our Citizens’ Jury on Pain Management event, Dr Deepak Ravindran challenged the room to think differently about how we approach persistent pain - asking why we don’t yet have services that address obesity and musculoskeletal health together, despite their close links.

He highlighted the need for greater investment in primary care to prevent patients “pinballing” between services, and called for community-wide, wraparound support to sustain progress after hospital care.

Antibiotics: Antibiotic treatment can both delay preterm birth and significantly lower the risk of death and disease linked to congenital infection, such as those caused by Group B Streptococcus (GBS), such as sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis.

Without effective antibiotic treatment, preterm infants are especially vulnerable – the risk of death from GBS in preterm infants is 25% and 10 times that of term infants.

At HI NENC, we’re proud to have donated 28 coats to this year’s Wrap Up Stockton campaign.

Our team contributed nine preloved coats, and HI NENC added 19 brand new ones – including 26 children’s coats.

Thanks to this effort, 26 local children will stay warm this winter.

Pat from the Rotary Club said: “Thank you and your organisation for this amazing donation. I have always said when fundraising that alone we can do a little, together we can do a lot.”

To explore the issues of Persistent Pain in-depth, we brought together a Citizens’ Jury of 14 members of the public from across the North East and North Cumbria.

Over 35 hours, they heard evidence from expert witnesses and worked together to produce a set of informed and practical recommendations. Their focus was on reducing opioid dependency and improving local pain management services and policies.
