We don’t close Alpha Gym is open every day as normal 🥳

ℹ️ Please check directly with your PT regarding their availability over the festive period, as individual coaches may take time off.

Outside of PT sessions, the gym will still be staffed and open, with Richy, Brett, Henk or Denva available to assist. 💻 💁🏼‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️

🎅 Christmas Day:
🕗 8:00am – 1:00pm (limited hours, but still open)

🎆 New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day:
✅ Open as normal

🎟️ Day Passes
• Day pass: £7.50
• 5-day pass: £20

Writing this one hits differently… it feels like looking back on years of memories 💔

Powerlifting final boss 🫡

Back in June 2023, we sponsored a young lifter called Abdul Mojeed Sulayman, known to everyone as Mo. 🇬🇧

After 2.5 years representing Alpha, he’s now moving to Manchester, and we’re honestly devastated to lose him. 😞

Mo wasn’t just another athlete.
He was the foundation of this gym. 🧱
He chose Alpha before we even had any powerlifting kit, Mo choose us because of our Panatta equipment he could use for his accessories and from that moment we built the gym around helping him compete at the highest level. 🚀

He became our first major IPF athlete, sponsored by SBD and ESN, representing Team GB 🥇 🇬🇧 and Alpha on the world stage 🌎 with professionalism and pride. A true one-in-a-million lifter.

We watched him grow from a dominant u105kg Arnold’s winner 🏆 into an absolute monster in the u120kg class.

Mo’s best numbers

🏋️ 357.5kg squat
🛋️ 220kg bench
⚡️ 382.5kg deadlift
🔢 937.5kg total

🔥 390kg deadlift

But beyond the numbers, it was the man that made Mo special. 🙏
Humble, consistent, professional, always helping others with zero ego and nothing but standards. 💯

Mo showed everyone in Alpha what it truly takes to reach the top. His work ethic is something you have to see to believe. 💯 🔥

There won’t be another Mo, but he’s left a blueprint, a standard, and a legacy inside these walls. 🏛️

Mo, we’re unbelievably proud of you and grateful for every session and every standard you set here. 🙌

22 years old. u105kg class.
One of the strongest students I’ve ever met 💪🔥

This lad walked in, loaded 270kg, told me he was “going for a single” and then hit a double like it was a last warm-up set 😅
Insane strength for his age and weight class.

It’s a shame he’s not based in Newcastle because he’d be a serious asset to Alpha Gym. Still buzzing to have him in whenever he’s here. Good luck with the comps coming up, mate 🤝

Mad to think you’ve just taken my max sleeve squat in front of me… for two reps… at 22 🤯 Different level.

The uni lot really are the future of powerlifting if they can stay injury-free and balance work, life, and training. The numbers they’re about to put up will be unreal.

Muslim, Christian and everything in between.
The flags were put up to support individuals, not for politics. 🤝

Recently it has caused tension on both sides, and as a small independent gym I cannot afford to lose members from any community 🙏🏻

To keep things neutral and fair for everyone, all flags will be removed.

If I allow any flags in the future, it will only be the England flag or the Union Jack for consistency.
And the Newcastle one, because that stays up forever ⚫⚪🫶🏻

I want to be clear that taking down the Kuwait flag is not aimed at any person or nationality.
It was put up to support a young member who trains hard here 🙏
The situation has just gone too far, so the same rule now applies to every flag.

Different backgrounds. One community.
Alpha is built on strength, respect and unity, not politics 🤍

Please understand that I am a small business trying to keep a positive and welcoming environment for everyone.
Most people come here to train, switch off and get a break from the world 🏋️‍♂️😌

This is Alpha training the same spirit Dorian Yates built downstairs in that cold, brutal dungeon. ❄️

Champions aren’t made in comfort. They’re built in places where the work matters more than the temperature 🏆

Winter’s always tough here cold mornings, cold kit, cold air. But you still turn up. You still graft. You still back the gym. 🙏

I can’t thank you lot enough for sticking with us through it. You’re the reason Alpha is what it is.

We might not have heating but we’ve got something better: a community that shows up no matter the conditions.

We’ve been looking for the right Powerlifting Coach for a long time not just an online coach, but someone who lives and breathes the sport and brings proper 1:1 coaching to the gym floor every day.

Meet Henk De Wet, our new Powerlifting Coach 🔥 🇿🇦 👈🏻

Originally from South Africa, Henk’s got years of competition and coaching experience including time coaching out in Malta, where he built a reputation for producing strong, disciplined lifters who live for raw powerlifting. 🇲🇹

And when we say raw, we mean it. You won’t see his clients rolling around with three people trying to rip sleeves off or his forearms bursting from wrapping everyone 😅 just clean, strong, disciplined lifting.

Henk has competed himself and has also coached lifters who’ve stepped on the platform right here at Alpha Gym under GPC and UKIPL.

We’re proud to have him joining the Alpha pack bringing another high - class standard of coaching to the team. 👨‍🏫
