π΄ Get enough good quality sleep β this helps to reduce blood pressure, manage cortisol levels, and reduces risk of heart disease among other medical conditions
π₯ Eat a healthy, balanced diet β consider higher fibre options for carbohydrates such as whole wheat pasta and whole grain rice, eat a good variety of fruits and vegetables, ensure good protein intake (consider non meat options such as pulses, nuts, tofu)
π Maintain a healthy weight β by eating a healthy diet and keeping physically active, you can keep your weight stable and reduce the risk of many health problems
π΄ Increase activity levels β the government recommends a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity per week, as well as two resistance/strength sessions and working on balance and mobility. Keep active by doing a sport or activity you enjoy. Try to fit activity into your day, such as taking the stairs instead of the lift, or walking/cycling instead of using the car
π Stop smoking β smoking is known to cause damage to the heart and blood vessels
π Manage stress β chronically high stress levels are disruptive to both physical and mental health
π₯° Practice self-care to improve physical and mental wellbeing β whether itβs joining an exercise class, practicing yoga or meditation, reading a book, or booking in for a massage, taking some time for you may be the best thing you can do to look after your health
