Happy Valentines day from PML 🌹

As February is also heart health month check out our tips below to look after your heart

❀️ ❀️ ❀️ ❀️

😴 Get enough good quality sleep – this helps to reduce blood pressure, manage cortisol levels, and reduces risk of heart disease among other medical conditions

πŸ₯— Eat a healthy, balanced diet – consider higher fibre options for carbohydrates such as whole wheat pasta and whole grain rice, eat a good variety of fruits and vegetables, ensure good protein intake (consider non meat options such as pulses, nuts, tofu)

πŸ˜€ Maintain a healthy weight – by eating a healthy diet and keeping physically active, you can keep your weight stable and reduce the risk of many health problems

🚴 Increase activity levels – the government recommends a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity per week, as well as two resistance/strength sessions and working on balance and mobility. Keep active by doing a sport or activity you enjoy. Try to fit activity into your day, such as taking the stairs instead of the lift, or walking/cycling instead of using the car

🚭 Stop smoking – smoking is known to cause damage to the heart and blood vessels

πŸ’† Manage stress – chronically high stress levels are disruptive to both physical and mental health

πŸ₯° Practice self-care to improve physical and mental wellbeing – whether it’s joining an exercise class, practicing yoga or meditation, reading a book, or booking in for a massage, taking some time for you may be the best thing you can do to look after your health
