This week’s spotlight goes to someone who’s been grafting hard, showing up consistently, and maybe… just maybe… learning how clocks work.

That’s right, it’s Mr John Atkinson 🙌🏻

John joined Primal back in October 2022, and since then he’s been a regular face at our 5:30pm session (or 5:35 if you ask John). To be fair, on rare celestial occasions, he’ll even show up 30 minutes early to even things out. One thing we can absolutely say about John is that he is consistent… in his own very special way!

Over the last few weeks, though, John has been dialed ALL the way in. We’ve genuinely never seen a man push so hard for a spotlight, and he’s earned it. He’s always been a strong lad, benching 110kg for reps, but lately we’ve been asking him to step things up across the board… and he has not disappointed. His technique has been pristine, his intensity has shot up, and he’s pushing heavier weights like it’s nothing. And yes, he’s even starting to turn up on time more regularly!

Beyond the hard work, John is just good crack. He chats to everyone, brings great energy into every session, and has made some brilliant friends along the way, including his now partner in crime, Alan. The pair of them are basically joined at the hip at this point. If you see one, the other isn’t far behind!

John, keep doing what you’re doing. Your effort has been unreal lately, your progress has been class to watch, and your presence in the gym makes Primal better. Keep smashing it, and keep those early arrivals coming… we believe in you.

This week we’re shining the spotlight on someone who has absolutely hit the ground running since joining Primal, Chris Embleton!

Chris joined us just 12 weeks ago, and in that short space of time he’s made some absolutely huge strides. He’s already dropped 9kg, and judging by his work rate, he’s nowhere near done yet!

Coming from a background of being a frequent gym-goer when he was younger, it was obvious from day one that Chris had a lot of strength in the tank, we just needed to build him back up steadily to avoid any injuries. On his very first day, he benched 50kg. A little wobbly after some time out, sure… but the raw strength was clearly there.

Now? Chris is already benching over 90kg! His improvements across all his lifts have been just as impressive, he’s getting stronger week after week, and his consistency is a huge part of that success.

What’s been even better to see is how much Chris has thrown himself into the Primal community. He’s met loads of new people, made great friends in the sessions he attends, and you can really see him coming out of his shell and thriving in the environment.

Chris works hard, listens well, and does absolutely everything asked of him without hesitation. His dedication, effort, and attitude have been outstanding, and we genuinely can’t wait to see how much more he can achieve in the months ahead.

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on the amazing Jill Taylor!

Jill spent years hopping around different gyms, trying to find something that truly clicked. She even did a 6-week trial with us a couple of years ago alongside her friend Catherine. While Catherine stayed, Jill continued to try things on her own, but struggled with consistency and progress.

But after seeing Catherine’s focus and how much she’d achieved since joining Primal, Jill decided to give it another go. She came back in January of this year, and she’s absolutely never looked back!

From day one, Jill has been laser focused, working closely with her coach to set proper goals and targets to keep her motivated. And the transformation in her training has been incredible. Jill has gone from inconsistent attendance… to being one of the most regular and committed faces in the gym. The coaches are genuinely blown away by her progress week in, week out!

Recently, Jill took on The Hybrid Games in Newcastle, competing alongside friend (and partner in crime!) Catherine, and they absolutely smashed it! They loved it so much that they’ve already signed up for the next one in London this December.

True to form, Jill sat back down with her coach to break down the areas she found tough and the things she wanted to improve before London. She’s been pushing herself harder than ever, working smart, working consistently, and doing everything she can to level up for the next event.

Jill, your commitment, progress, and attitude have been phenomenal. We cannot WAIT to see how you and Catherine get on in London, and to find out what challenge you set your sights on next!

This week’s spotlight goes to the amazing Leigh Taylor!

Leigh joined us right at the end of May this year, and she’s been absolutely smashing her training ever since! When she first started, she joined through our Small Group Personal Training sessions and was brand new to the gym world, a little nervous, especially about giving our Team Training sessions a go.

Fast forward a few months, and you wouldn’t believe the change! Leigh’s built amazing confidence, made loads of friends, and has become a regular face at 6am, not just trying Team Training, but now crushing it every week!

She even got stuck right in for her first big event, taking on Primal-Rox in September alongside another member who started around the same time. Talk about jumping in with both feet!

Leigh’s hard work and positive attitude haven’t gone unnoticed, she’s super receptive to coaching, gives 100% in every session, and the results speak for themselves: she’s already dropped over 6kg and over 5% body fat! Incredible progress in such a short time!

Leigh, you’ve been such a brilliant addition to the Primal family, your effort, consistency, and energy have been amazing to watch. Keep doing what you’re doing, because you’re absolutely flying!

This week’s spotlight goes to one of our long-time legends, Sarah Dewar!

Sarah has been part of the Primal family for over 6 years, and she’s one of our Hall of Fame members, having clocked in an incredible 1,000+ sessions! Over the years, she’s been the definition of consistency, always training hard, always smiling, and always bringing positive energy into every session.

She’s made countless friends along the way and is the first to get involved in anything Primal, whether it’s an in-gym challenge or one of our social events. Sarah truly embodies everything our community stands for, supportive, fun, and fiercely committed.

Earlier this year, after completing the Deadly Dozen, Sarah found herself feeling a little lost without a clear target to aim for. So, we sat down and set her some focused training goals, with specific sessions for strength, control, and stability. And since then, it’s like she’s had a total reset, her focus, intensity, and results have gone through the roof!

She’s already added 4kg to her military press in just over a month, and she’s casually smashing walking lunges with 30kg on her back, with flawless control, too! Even without an InBody scan, it’s plain to see how much her shape and strength have transformed recently.

Sarah, you’re an absolute inspiration. You’ve shown that even after years of training, there’s always another level to reach, and you’ve found it in style. We couldn’t be prouder of your effort, consistency, and attitude. Here’s to the next 1,000 sessions!

This week’s spotlight is on someone who’s shown that age, injury, or setbacks are no match for consistency and determination, Neil Smith!

Neil, a proud Heaton Harriers runner, joined us back in April after struggling with a foot injury that had started to affect his running. With his 60th birthday just a couple of weeks ago, his goal was simple: get back to his best. And he’s absolutely done that, and more!

From day one, Neil came in with a brilliant attitude and was always a pleasure to coach. But over the past few months, he’s taken things up another level, his attendance, effort, and drive have been next-level, and every coach has noticed the difference.

An avid Parkrunner, Neil recently celebrated an incredible milestone, completing his 400th Town Moor Parkrun, and he’s now closing in on 500 total Parkruns! That’s some serious commitment to the sport.

And the progress he’s made since joining Primal is phenomenal. When he started, Neil was running 5Ks in around 32 minutes, now he’s consistently around the 26-minute mark, with his sights firmly set on going under 25 minutes. Most recently, he took on the Jarrow 10K, expecting to come in around an hour, but smashed it in 56 minutes instead!

Neil, your work ethic, positivity, and consistency are incredible. You’re an absolute example of what can be achieved when you put the work in and trust the process. We’re all so proud of the progress you’ve made, here’s to more PBs, more Parkruns, and that sub-25 5K coming soon!
