🌟 A reminder of our New Pilot Scheme at Elswick Family Practice! 🌟

We’re excited to share that Elswick Family Practice is working with the RVI and Freeman Hospital on a brand-new self-referral pilot for chest X-rays (CXR).

If you’re aged 40 or over and registered with us and not had a CXR in the last 3 months you can now refer yourself directly for a chest X-ray — no need to see a GP first! 🙌

You can take part if you’ve had any of these symptoms for more than 3 weeks:
💨 A persistent cough
💔 Chest pain
😮‍💨 Feeling breathless
😴 Ongoing tiredness
⚖️ Unexplained weight loss

This scheme helps spot any lung problems early — so please don’t wait to get checked!

👉 Contact us at the practice to find out how to self-refer.

And don’t worry — if you have any other health concerns, you can still book an appointment to see one of our team at the practice. 💙

Let’s look after those lungs together! 🌈

🩺 AAA Screening for Men – Could Save Your Life

An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is a swelling of the main blood vessel (aorta) that runs from your heart through your abdomen. It often has no symptoms, but if it bursts, it can be life-threatening.

In the UK, the NHS offers a free, simple ultrasound scan to men during the year they turn 65.

👨 Who should attend?
✔️ Men aged 65 (you’ll receive an invitation letter)
✔️ Men over 65 who haven’t been screened can request an appointment
✔️ Particularly important if you’ve ever smoked

⏱ The scan:
• Takes about 10 minutes
• Is painless
• You usually get the result straight away

AAA screening helps find problems early, so they can be monitored or treated if needed.

If you’re eligible, please attend your appointment — it could save your life.
