😮‍💨But it's December 5th and already you're stressed, tired, anxious and overwhelmed at how much you have to do and the little time you have to do it.

😵‍💫When our to-do list is sooooo long, trying to look after ourselves as well can feel like another task to add to the list!!!!!

🪫 But this is EXACTLY when you need it the most.

"I have more energy and confidence."

This was what my client said to me last week.

This client came to me with fast, shallow breathing and lots of coughing, feeling exhausted.

✅We slowed the breath rate
✅moved to nasal breathing,
✅improved breathing during sleep.
✅ Reducing mucus and inflammation in the lungs.

By slowing the breath rate, it stimulates the vagus nerve and takes the body out of fight/flight and into rest/digest.

When the body moves out of fight/flight, it takes the pressure off the nervous system, (the potential threat has been removed).

We move into a connected state where we are able to socialise and can have more energy.

The stress response isn't the issue (it keeps us alive), but the issue is when the stress response continues. Continued stress long term can creep up on us.

The budget is a perfect example of pre-anticipation stress. Feeling tense, wired or on edge before anything even happens.

Weeks of speculation can make your body brace for danger: shallow breath, tight shoulders, racing thoughts… all before the budget is even announced!!!

Then the announcement comes.
Sometimes there’s relief.
Sometimes the stress spikes (especially if finances are affected.)

If stress goes beyond your capacity, everything feels too much. You can’t think clearly, your breath changes, and your body gets stuck in fight-or-flight.

This is where breathwork can help.
#1- Daily breathwork can help our body to feel more balanced (Response is smaller or easier).
#2-Regulation in the moment- Breathwork techniques can help bring you back to balance so you don’t stay stuck in the activated (stress response).
#3- Somatic release breathwork- to move emotions, tensions, stress and trauma that might have become stored in the body.

Tips:
• Notice early signs ( shallow breath, tension, feeling wired)

How many of us were told we need to put 100% in and you will see results, right?

Now i disagree.
The intention was there, that if you put effort in you will likely see results.

However putting 100% in means we have no room for the seasons where we need more time, need more rest, need to recover or sadly when life's major events come along and we need more capacity just to survive.

Thats exactly what one definition of burnout is, chronic exposure to stress without enough rest.

We can't stop the stressful things that happen that are part of life, but we can ensure we are not running at full capacity all of the time.

Effort should NEVER exceed the potential to recover through REST.
Healthy effort is 60/70% of maximum.
We reserve 30-40% for high pressure situations

Yesterday i had the most productive day in weeks.

Do you know why?
Because i had a break.

At the weekend i had some lovely winter sun, i checked out of my business for a long weekend and guess what it was still there when i came back 😄!

We often think if we work harder, do more hours, we will see more results, and sometimes thats the case.

But often the opposite happens
*We slow down
*Concentration drops
*Frustrated at how long everything takes.

Sometimes we don't even realise as it creeps up on us.

December can be a busy time with deadlines, lack of sleep and parties can add extra pressure to the nervous system, productivity drops and stress rises.

I asked my client to choose what they wanted to do for a week, and their results improved.

Why? because i gave them a choice and let their body decide what was needed.

I can suggest practices but their body tells us what feels safe and comfortable.

If we remove choice, remove how it feels or simply do too much, we unintentionally add extra pressure onto an already overwhelmed nervous system.

When i work with clients we work together
*To find the practices that feel safe and comfortable
*To notice when reaching capacity
*To recognise when ticking off a to-do list, rather than the benefit of relaxation.

I constantly ask my clients, how are you feeling, so we are guided by their body and they choose what works.

Choice lead to regulation, its tells the nervous system; you're safe, in control & can relax.

This is one of the ways we rebalance or regulate the nervous system when working together.

When I was going through burnout I found ways to support my nervous system so I did them all haha!

But I didn’t see results, I actually got worse!

Going through burnout, I had to throw all of my beliefs, values, coping mechanisms out the window and listen, listen to my body.

The nervous system needs safety, and slow gentle pace in order to recover and slow increases in capacity.

After a fast paced life where effort equals results it was difficult to slow down, but slowly my body adjusted until it felt comfortable and I had more energy, slept better, didn’t feel stressed and anxious all the time.

Now I want to show you, how to implement simple daily breathing techniques so your body can take a break, rest and recover before it gets to burnout.

I used to not do anything for myself & eventually i burnt out.

I wish more people knew that looking after yourself isn't selfish, its essential.

When you do something for yourself each day, you show yourself that:
*You matter
*You come first
*Your body can trust you to give it what it needs.

Burnout starts with not looking after ourselves enough.

Simple way to avoid burnout:
*Start looking after yourself
*Listen to you body, & give it what it needs. (Sleep, rest, recovery, nutrition, hydration)

When your body doesn't have to shout for basic things, it learns that you will take care of it.
