My philosophy as a physiotherapist is to search for the cause of the problem rather than simply treat the symptoms. My clinics are based around my patients and their individual needs; you may want an initial assessment to give you a diagnosis and let you know how to look after yourself, or you may wish for regular appointments and hands on therapy to help speed up your recovery. The choice is always yours and I am happy to guide and advise you on your road to recovery. Musculoskeletal physiotherapy helps to manage problems with muscles, joints, bones and ligaments. This includes neck and back pain, shoulder injuries, hip and knee arthritis, ankle sprains, tennis elbow and many more conditions. Ring me if you would like to know if I can help you. I also provide sports massage, which can be combined with other forms of therapy to treat your joints as well as your muscles. My history:
I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2002 from Leeds Metropolitan University. I then worked for 4 years at St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington in London, firstly as a junior rotational physiotherapist working in areas such as neurology, respiratory and orthopaedics and then as a senior musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapist, rotating around key areas including orthopaedics, out-patients, Women's Health and fracture clinic. After 4 years I decided it was time to move back to my native North East and I have worked with Connect Physiotherapy in Gosforth and Low Fell and the NHS ever since. During this time I completed my master's degree in Manual Therapy and became a member of the MACP (https://macpweb.org/home/ - for further details). Most recently I was employed by Newcastle Hospitals as a Spinal Clinical Specialist and I now work exclusively at The Retreat in Whickham providing private physiotherapy appointments for the local community. I am registered with many large insurance providers if you are covered by private medical insurance. I have a special interest in pain management, neck and back pain as well as shoulder injuries and cervicogenic headaches (headaches originating from the neck) but I like seeing a variety of different conditions to keep life interesting!

🤔Do you have a waiting area or place to share a poster?

It’s World Continence Week starting tomorrow!
I’ve created some posters in A4 that can be used to raise awareness.

The unnamed pelvis has their first job! They are a pin-up 😂

Feel free to use them if you want to!

The PDFs can be found in the link in my bio or if you want I can email them to you - email me at admin@knowyourfloors.co.uk

The QR code links to an ABBA SqueezeAlong on YouTube. For people who need to work on relax, there’s a relax playlist on YouTube as well.

If you or any patients have any feedback - I’d love to hear it.

Thanks for sharing if you choose to.

lients often bring up that they have been told by certain health practitioners, media, friends /family to avoid sleeping in certain positions as it would have a negative impact on their spine, shoulder, hip, knee ankle...list goes on. Most wish they could sleep in these positions as it’s often a preferred position. Isn’t there enough things to worry about in life without having to think about the ‘best position’ to sleep in for your back, neck health, shoulder health. If you’re uncomfortable you will naturally move throughout the night. If you have pain in a position yes you may need to temporarily adjust positions during a episode of injury or pain, but no reason why you can’t gradually work back into your preferred positions. Your best sleep position is your next sleep position! And what’s most important is you get a good nights sleep! 💤 😴

🙏🏻 Couldn't agree more!

🤷🏻‍♂️ Why do you think patients aren't given evidence based approaches first?

[PAIN UP. PAIN DOWN]
Pain is more complex than this, but I like this as a start.

This is the way many frame pain, and I think if it resonates with clients it’s a great starting place for discussion.

So when speaking to what factors might be associated with pain volume increasing, we might ask:
WHAT KIND OF CUES MIGHT TELL YOUR BODY IT’S IN DANGER?

And when speaking to what factors might be associated with pain volume decreasing, we might ask:
WHAT KIND OF CUES MIGHT TELL YOUR BODY IT’S SAFE?

See what comes up.

Don’t sit still. Make moves.

Great post by
"Your spine isn’t like a tower of Jenga blocks ready to topple over with a gust of wind…

It’s more resilient than that!

And things like spinal manipulation can certainly help reduce pain and tightness and improve ROM, but not because it’s relocating a bone that is out of place.

If our vertebrae “slipped” out of place that easily, we’d be in trouble!!

Spinal manipulation can help to quickly desensitize the area around the joint (via neurophysiological effects) which produces immediate improvement in mobility and decreased pain

Manipulation CAN be a part of a solid treatment program, but our bias would be to follow that up with some movement and loading as well 😉
