💛 What’s a Corpus Luteum?
(And why your sonographer might mention it!) 💛
During early pregnancy scans, you may hear your sonographer say they can see a corpus luteum and don’t worry, it’s completely normal.
After you ovulate, the follicle that released your egg turns into a small, hormone-producing structure called the corpus luteum. 😃
Its job in early pregnancy is essential:
✨ It produces progesterone, the hormone that supports your pregnancy until the placenta takes over.
On an ultrasound, it can look like a small cyst on the o***y, but it’s supposed to be there.
In fact, spotting a healthy corpus luteum is often a reassuring sign that your body is doing exactly what it should. 💛
