A bit of a rant...and it's a long post 😣😁
How Do You Choose Your Therapist?
It’s a good question.
Do you choose via a website, social media, paid adverts, or simply because someone you trust recommended them? Or a combination of these.
I want to share a little more about me and my business, R&R Therapy.
R&R Therapy is a small, independent practice—just me. I work from a cosy, welcoming therapy space in South Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, where I’ve been based for the past eight years. Before that, I was located at Northern Rugby Club in Gosforth.
My room is calm, private, and intentionally designed to feel safe and nurturing from the moment you arrive.
I’m not loud or flashy, and I’m certainly not everywhere on social media. I know visibility matters, and that’s something I continue to work on, but my true preference has always been spending my time with my clients—offering reassurance, care, and the therapies they come to me for.
This year marks 12 years of offering holistic therapies, and I genuinely wouldn’t change a thing. I specialise in Reflexology, Reiki, and Holistic Facials, with a strong focus on creating deep calm and relaxation for every client I work with. I’m also a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists, which can be helpful for clients who are able to claim treatments through health and wellbeing policies.
Recently, I was contacted by a local online platform promoting insights about local holistic therapy businesses. Was I interested? On the surface, it sounded like a good opportunity to reach more people. However, when I read the draft content, it included statements that simply weren’t true—such as claiming the editor had visited me for a treatment (they hadn’t), and that clients had been spoken to about my services (they hadn’t either!!)
It would have been very easy to agree and allow the piece to be published—but I just couldn’t do that.
I have worked incredibly hard to build a reputable business over many years, and honesty matters deeply to me. My ethics and integrity are non-negotiable. Over 15% of my clients have been with me since my very first year in business, and that loyalty and trust is something I hold as incredibly precious.
The article also listed “downsides,” such as me being the only practitioner—which is true and very intentional. I work with one client at a time, offering my full attention and care. That will never change! I do have limited availability because I work carefully and mindfully, and my regular clients understand this and book in advance. New clients may sometimes need to wait—but they often do, because they’ve heard about me through word of mouth, if I can’t accommodate, I will recommend them to other therapists, that I personally know and trust.
What deeply concerned me was the implication that client information might be shared. Let me be absolutely clear: confidential details are never shared. No one would be able to contact a client of mine…ever!
I pride myself on offering a high standard of care. If something doesn’t sit right with me, I will ask for GP confirmation before treating. I will only work with you if I genuinely feel I can help, if there was a specific remit out of my knowledge I would decline a treatment and signpost elsewhere. I care—truly and wholeheartedly—about the people who walk through my door.
Many years ago, a client once said to me:
“You are your business. People come because of you.”
That has stayed with me ever since.
Trust is my marketing. My clients trust me, return to me, and recommend me to others—and that means everything.
So, if you’re looking for a reflexologist you can rely on, trust, and feel genuinely cared for—from the moment you book to the moment you leave—then please do get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.
And a word of caution, I personally felt the article about my business lacked authenticity and had a 'feel' of Ai, whilst I’m not against it and, for example, once I’ve written a newsletter I use it to generate a smoother flow or to check grammar etc but my words are always mine and mine alone.
Happy Friday (and if you've got to the bottom of this...THANKS)
Rachel 💚💜
