Before you hit the gym or go for a run, it’s tempting to skip warm-ups and dive straight into your workout but your joints, muscles, and nerves need preparation to perform safely and efficiently.

From a physiotherapist’s perspective, warm ups pre- workout are essential because they:

Increase joint range of motion – Mobilising key joints (ankles, hips, shoulders, spine) allows your body to move through exercises safely and effectively.

Activate muscles correctly – Preparing stabilising muscles ensures you’re not compensating or relying on weaker muscles, reducing injury risk.

Enhance performance – Your body moves more efficiently when it’s ready to move, improving power, speed, and control.

Protect against injury – Sudden, loaded movements without prep can overload joints and tissues, especially if you’re tight or have prior injuries.

Each warm up should last around 5–10 minutes targeting mobility before every session. It’s an investment in both performance and long-term joint health.

If you’ve never seen a physiotherapist before, your first appointment can feel a little daunting. Our goal is to make you feel comfortable, listened to, and confident about your recovery from the very start.

A detailed conversation about you:
We’ll start by talking through your injury or pain, your medical history, lifestyle, work, and activity levels. This helps us understand not just what hurts, but why.

Thorough assessment & movement analysis:
This may include looking at posture, joint movement, range of movement, strength, and functional tasks. Don’t worry everything is explained as we go, and nothing is done without your consent.

Clear diagnosis & explanation:
We’ll explain what’s going on in a clear and simple way so you understand your condition and what’s contributing to it.

Hands-on treatment (where appropriate):
Your first session may include treatment such as manual therapy, soft tissue work, or joint mobilisation to help reduce pain and improve movement.

Personalised treatment plan:
You’ll leave with a clear plan tailored to you, including exercises, advice, and guidance on next steps to help you recover safely and effectively.

Time for questions:
We encourage questions! Understanding your body and your rehab is a key part of long-term results.
