New Secure Messaging Coming Soon!

We’re excited to announce that our practice will soon be using Engage Health Systems to send secure messages directly to you by email or SMS. Emails received will be from noreply@engage.gp and SMS from GPSurgery.

For the best experience, we encourage patients to use the Engage App, which allows you to:

✅ Receive push notifications instantly
📱 Search “Engage Consult” in your app store to get started.

There’s nothing you need to do right now except ensure your mobile number and email address are up to date. If you’d like to update your details, just speak to reception or use our online form:

Opting Out of Text Messages
If you prefer not to receive text messages from the practice, please let us know. You can:

📢 Practice Closure for Staff Training – Tuesday 9th September

Due to essential maintenance being carried out by the Health Board on our I.T systems, the practice will be closed on Tuesday 9th September for a full day of staff training and internal meetings.

🔴 We will remain open for emergency medical needs only.

If you have an urgent medical issue, please call us as normal and we will assist you.

For non-urgent matters, including requests for repeat medication, we kindly ask that you wait and contact us on Wednesday 10th September, when normal service will resume.

Thank you to all those who applied for the part time position we recently advertised. Just to confirm that the closing deadline for this this position was the 14th July. Applications will now be processed and we will be in touch accordingly.

📢 Important Update: New Lunchtime Closure Hours from 1st July 🕐

Earlier this year, we trialled closing the practice on Tuesday and Friday lunchtimes. This gave our team valuable time for essential training and allowed us to catch up on complex admin tasks.

🗓️ From 1st July, we will be closing every day between 1pm and 2pm.

During this time, we’ll remain available for emergencies—just give us a call or ring the doorbell.

This short daily break will help our team complete important behind-the-scenes work like processing referrals, test results, hospital letters, and patient recalls for abnormal results—more quickly and safely.

If you’ve received a call from an 01896 number you don’t recognise – it could be the NHS Borders Pharmacy Team working on behalf of your GP practice.
Our pharmacy staff might give you a call from an 01896 number (even if your GP practice has a different area code) to check your medicines after you’ve been in hospital or at a clinic appointment.
Please don’t ignore their call – they just want to make sure everything is accurate, update your GP records about your medicines and make sure that you have everything you need.

Dr Kennedy would like to thank everyone for their kind words and generous gifts on his retirement. He is keeping all the cards in a special box to remind him of all the wonderful times and people he has encountered in Newcastleton, Roadhead, Penton and Kielder.

An emotional day last Friday as we said goodbye to Dr Kennedy and presented him with retirement gifts, cards and an amazing cake made by Emily. Thank you to all those who gave to the collection, the response was amazing and we were able to present him with a voucher to be professionally fitted for and purchase a new set of golf clubs.

Dr Kennedy will be having a leaving party at Legends on Saturday 19th April at 8:30pm, so come along to help us celebrate all that he has done for the community over the years.
