Why do I do what I do?

I was never one of those kids who had a strong idea of what I wanted to be - in fact while in school I don't think I ever thought that far ahead!

My mum often suggested "physiotherapist" as a career path for me - I didn't even know what that was!

But now here I am, having taken a less traditional pathway to working with the body to help resolve issues similar to those I would have been resolving had I followed my mum's advice.🤔

Having done a string of very different, unfulfilling roles I have found my Ikigai - that which fills me with joy & makes me feel at home🤗

These are the reasons I love my job:
🔥Passion - for helping others find peace in their own bodies again

👣Variety - perfect for a busy brain that easily gets bored! My job means I get to work with a variety of different people & dogs using a variety of therapeutic tools

🖌Creativity - no 2 people are the same, even if they have the same symptoms. Each session is creatively crafted to suit the body & nervous system that walks through the door for optimal outcomes

👐Hands that listen - I love working with my hands- but a bodyworkers' skills are not just about knowing the technique & applying it to the anatomy – we have highly sensitive hands that are able to feel & “listen” to what the tissues are saying. This is one of the most exciting parts of my job!

🧐Knowledge & learning - you never stop learning about the body! My therapeutic journey has lead me down educational paths & opened new avenues I never had considered before. (Watch out for some new services brewing that will be available later in the year! )

❓Problem solving - I love a challenge (within reason!) & running a small business in a competitive industry certainly keeps me on my toes!

Have you found your Ikigai?💚🩵🖤

The return of the light is here!
A time when winter transitions into Spring.

There will be more cold, there will be more rain, there may even be some snow.....

But rejoice in the knowing that under your feet nature is stirring, plants are preparing to grow & the mud takes on a new quality....

Somewhere between sticky treacle & squelchy ice, this month's mud presents walkers with new challenges!

Such as the forward motion of the upper limb, only to find the lower limb gets left behind as the foot is stuck in place!

Or the occasional slippy patch that takes you by surprise & embarrasses you by forcing you to do the splits!

February, that glorious month of sprains, strains & other mud inflicted injuries!

A promising time for handing yourself over to your local bodyworker to help ease your hard working ankles, knees & hips & restore some of the balance lost in navigating the treacherous paths in your corner of the world!💚🩵🖤

Where does the Bowen Technique come from ?

You may be surprised to know that Bowen Therapy has some very humble beginnings.

Hailing from 1950's Geelong, Australia, this hands on technique was developed by Tom Bowen - a working class factory worker with a talent for helping relieve his work mates' pains & tension during their lunch breaks.

His interest in anatomy & hands on "healing" lead him to begin a journey of self-education, developing the foundations of the technique that is now practiced across the globe.

By the 70's & 80's interest in his technique lead to a select few learning from Tom himself, developing & spreading this valuable bodywork practice that helps countless people recover from pain, some who may have exhausted all other options in their journey to recovery.

In the last 2 decades alone science has caught up! with ever expanding research into fascia, the nervous system, the physical effects of trauma & the body's innate ability to recover & heal itself from a range of issues.

These are exciting times! As we learn more about how our bodies function - both internally & externally - & the institutes of learning expand their range of studies & clinical research into the effectiveness of bodywork techniques in the rehabilitation of a range of conditions💚🩵🖤
