Dear Patients,

We are currently experiencing technical issues with our IT systems, which are affecting access to patient records, appointment bookings, and prescription processing.

Our team is working closely with our IT support and NHS Digital to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

During this time:
•Please bear with us if appointments or queries take longer than usual.

•If your matter is urgent, our clinical team will still prioritise your care.

•Repeat prescriptions may take longer to process, please allow extra time before collecting.

We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and thank you for your patience and understanding.

🌎 World Menopause Day 🌎

🌍 Purpose

The day aims to raise awareness about menopause, break the stigma surrounding it, and support women’s health and wellbeing during midlife and beyond. It encourages education, open discussion, and better access to healthcare for those experiencing menopause and perimenopause.

💡 Key Messages
•Menopause is a natural biological process, not a disease.
•Support through education, workplace policy, and healthcare is essential.
•Open conversations help normalize the experience and reduce stigma.

The Common Ailments Service is available free of charge at participating pharmacies, offering help for a range of common health problems – from head lice and athlete’s foot to sore throats and urinary tract infections (UTIs).
We are pleased to share that the UTI service and the Sore Throat Test and Treat service are now fully included within the Common Ailments Service.

This means these services should be available in every pharmacy.

What patients can expect:

·Expert advice and treatment: Pharmacists are trained to assess symptoms, provide guidance, and supply treatment if required.

·Point of care testing: for sore throats and UTIs a simple test may be carried out to check if antibiotics will work.

·Fast and confidential care:
Consultations are confidential and typically available within 24 hours.
Access within 48 hours – if the service is unavailable at a chosen pharmacy patients can be directed to a neighbouring pharmacy to ensure they are seen.
This expansion makes it easier than ever for people to access safe, expert care without needing a GP appointment.

🩷Baby Loss Awareness Week: (9th-15th October) An annual campaign to increase public understanding of pregnancy and infant loss, miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal death.
💙The primary aim is to provide a safe space for bereaved families to share their experiences and ensure they receive necessary support.
🩷It serves as a time to remember babies who have passed away and to provide a message of hope for those who are grieving.
💙The week encourages people to participate by registering events, wearing a ribbon badge, and talking about baby loss.

Below are the associated charities that work alongside BLAW that can offer help and support to parents and families experiencing baby/infant loss 💙

📣 It’s Diabetic Hypo Heroes Week! (6–12 October)

This week, we’re joining the campaign to raise awareness about hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) in people with diabetes.

💙 What are we doing?
• Spotting the signs – learn to recognise when someone might be having a hypo
• Learning the symptoms – understand what to look out for
• Knowing the treatments – be confident in how to help

Let’s all be Hypo Heroes and help keep each other safe! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️

Breast cancer is a common cancer, especially in women, with millions of cases diagnosed globally and in the UK each year. While it can affect men and younger women, it is most prevalent in women over 50. Early detection through screening, like mammograms, significantly improves survival rates.
