Plant indoor bulbs to flower for Christmas

This is the perfect time to plant indoor bulbs to ensure they provide a fabulous display throughout Christmas.

The golden rule is to make sure you get hold of 'prepared' or 'treated' bulbs which have been primed to flower quickly once you bring them inside and pot them up. You can force them yourself but that means starting in August/September and involves a lot more preparation.

Newport dance school Le Clare celebrates pupils' success

A NEWPORT dance school is celebrating the success of its students.

Le Clare School of Dance, in Clarence Place, in the city centre, has had several students winning competitions and obtaining sponsorship since becoming a professional dance school about 18 months ago.

Dance teacher Catherine Bennett said their students participate in competitions for freestyle and contemporary style of dancing.

Funding help for sixth formers who want to become doctors

DOCTORS of the future are being helped by Gwent's health board to prepare for a career in medicine.

Funding has been provided by the 12 GP clusters in the area - known as Neighbourhood Care Networks (NCNs) - to support sixth formers who want to study medicine to navigate the application process to universities.

A preparatory course for students in Gwent is being provided in partnership with Mediprep UK, an organisation that seeks to help students through the application process.

Meet and greet top Welsh boxers to attend Marie Curie fundraiser at Cwmbran pub

NINE Welsh boxers will be appearing at a pub in Cwmbran as part of a charity fundraiser for the Marie Curie Cancer Charity.

Among the boxers to appear at The Greenhouse in Llantarnam will be Lee Selby, the IBF featherweight world champion, and his brother Andrew, who will be competing for the WBC flyweight title.

Ashley Brace, Mitchell Buckland, Lance Cooksey, Craig Evans, Fred Evans, Gavin Gwynn and Sean McGoldrick will complete the line-up alongside coaches Junior Borg and Tony Borg.

The RHS Autumn Garden Show brings an edible forest to London - for two days only

The two RHS halls in Victoria will be resplendent with autumn bounty on October 25-26, 10am-5pm.

Along with floral installations from the Electric Daisy Flower Farm, specially selected plants to buy and talks from Bill Oddie, Roy Lancaster, Anne Swithinbank and Nick Bailey, you can immerse yourself in a self-sustaining edible forest in which shrubs, trees and ‘edimentals' work together to look after themselves.

Ugni molinae, Allium hookeri and Sium sisarum surround a mushroom dome in an installation by Jon Davies whose ‘London Glades' garden won Gold at RHS Hampton Court show this year. It's kitchen gardening, but definitely not as we know it.

Students organise charity fashion show

A GROUP of school girls from Newport are organising a fashion show to buy Christmas presents for the children who will not get any.

The Year 13 students from St Julian's High School and St Joseph's RC High School are organising the fashion to raise money for Hybu, a Newport-based charity that helps young people develop their communication and team building skills while finding their voice and being more confident in themselves.

Lauren Greenslade, a Year 13 student at St Julian's High School, said they have been preparing the fashion show, which will take place at 7pm on Tuesday, November 14 at the school, for about six weeks.

SINGER and TV presenter Peter Andre delighted fans on a visit to Cwmbran.

The pop star, known for hits Mysterious Girl and Flava, visited the town for the filming of the ITV programme 60 Minute Makeover last week, it is understood.

Fan Darren Stone said Andre was an "inspiration."

"He has a great personality and took the time out to see us," he added.

During the visit last week, Andre stayed at Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran Drive, Cwmbran.
