First time mum and islander Madeleine, who gave birth to baby Daphne at the end of January took the opportunity to take part in the Generation Study after seeing the research study launch on the island earlier this year.

Madeleine said: “I have had several unusual health conditions growing up so already had some awareness to the importance of screening for rare conditions. The screening was really simple, and the results came back quickly giving Daphne the all clear.”

The Generation Study is a programme offering free newborn genomic screening for 200+ rare conditions to help detect treatable conditions early and improve outcomes for families.

Expecting parents can either register interest online or contact the local hospital Research Team on 01983 552354 prior to delivery. If you have registered your interest online, the Research Team will get in touch with you to arrange consent to the study. www.generationstudy.co.uk
