Ever wonder how our Island became home to a birth cohort study with 1,435 participants?

Here's why the Isle of Wight was chosen:
1️⃣ Perfect size, not too big, not too small - ideal for studying common conditions like asthma and allergies.
2️⃣ A stable population, making long-term follow-up easier and more reliable.
3️⃣ And most importantly… the people here are brilliant!

We’re proud to be part of a community that’s helped shape health research for over 30 years and thank you for joining us for our Allergy Series special!

Did you know, pioneering research started in 1989 on the Isle of Wight, inviting all new mothers to join a study that’s since impacted health worldwide!

👉 The Isle of Wight birth cohort is a group of people born around the same time, followed over the years to understand how early life affects health, particularly asthma and allergies.

📊 Now over 30 years later, this is one of the oldest and most thoroughly followed studies in the world.
