3 Exercises To Prepare You For Skiing! 🎿

1️⃣ Wall Sit/Wall Squat: 🧱
🔹Find a clear wall space and stand with your back against the wall.
🔹Lower your body into a seated position, bending your knees at a 90-degree angle. Keep your back against the wall and ensure your knees are directly above your ankles.
🔹Hold the position for as long as you can, gradually increasing the duration as your strength improves.
🔹This exercise targets the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes, helping to build leg strength and endurance essential for skiing.

2️⃣ Single Leg Star Excursion: ⭐️
🔹Stand on one leg with a slight bend in the knee.
🔹Reach the opposite leg diagonally behind and to the side, extending your arms in the same direction.
🔹Return to the starting position and repeat on the same leg for a set number of repetitions before switching to the other leg.
🔹This exercise enhances balance, stability, and works on the hip abductors, which are crucial for maintaining control during skiing manoeuvres.

3️⃣ Side Plank with Knee to Chest: 🦵
🔹Begin in a side plank position, supporting your body weight on one forearm and the side of your foot, creating a straight line from head to heels.
🔹Bring your top knee toward your chest while maintaining the side plank position.
🔹Extend the knee back out, returning to the side plank.
🔹Repeat on the same side for a set number of repetitions before switching to the other side.
🔹This exercise challenges the core, obliques, and hip flexors, contributing to improved core stability and control while skiing.

We have all heard of Apre-Ski… 🍻 But have you heard of Pre-Ski? 🫁

I thought not…

Here’s our top three common mistakes people make before hitting the slopes;

1️⃣ Wear the Right Equipment:
�Strive for a fun filled and accident avoiding ride by ensuring you’ve got the right gear. From the correct footwear to properly adjusted bindings and a helmet that is of course stylish but also safe and secure. A well-equipped skier is a confident skier!

2️⃣ Prep with Fitness Before Your Ski Holiday:

Improve your downhill by hitting the cardio before you leave. Try to work on enhancing your overall fitness to tackle those demanding descents. Remember the increased altitude and the reduced oxygen levels. You will need a higher level capacity of fitness to really optimise your time away. A pre-ski fitness routine not only boosts performance but also reduces the risk of fatigue and injury.

3️⃣ Build Leg Strength Before You Go:

Don’t let those first runs leave you feeling wobbly – start focusing on leg workouts now. Building leg strength ensures you can handle the load and enjoy every turn and jump without worrying about sore muscles. Get those legs mountain-ready and take on the slopes with confidence! 💪⛷️

Our Story

Formally RJO Massage Therapy founded in 2013, The Treatment Room is a multidisciplinary healthcare practice devoted to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems

Our clients range from members of the public to professional athletes, from individual athletes to local sports clubs. Our massage therapists work closely with a team of chartered physiotherapists to help you recover from any injury or problem you may have to reaching your potential.

We provide alternative services in all of our satellite clinics with our headquarters located in Newport, South Wales.
