Newquay Towan Blystra Lions Community Lunch
An annual Christmas tradition - the Lions Community Lunch, that started as long ago as 2011 and only didn’t take place a few years ago due to COVID, will be coming back to The Magnuson Sandy Lodge Hotel in Hilgrove Road, Newquay on Friday 5 December from 12 for a 12.30pm meal.
The lunch is particularly welcomed by members of the community who may, otherwise, not have the opportunities to socialise over the festive period as readily as others. It’s not an ‘old people’s lunch’ but an opportunity afforded to anyone in the community who feels this is something that can bring some cheer into the lives of themselves, friends and families at an affordable cost due to the subsidies and support of Towan Blystra Lions Club and many others in the community.
For just £9, those attending can look forward to a sherry or juice on arrival, a two course traditional Xmas lunch with mince pies and clotted cream, a glass of wine or soft drink with the meal, a free prize BINGO session, tombola, raffle and great entertainment from the town’s favourite songbird, Paula Marcelis who, once again, will make sure everyone goes home with a smile on their face.
Tickets are limited in number and need to be booked in advance by either emailing Lion Lesley Baize at socialntblions@gmail.com or telephoning her on 0345 833 4981. Tickets will then be able to be collected from The Lanherne Pub in Ulalia Road between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday 8 November or, if this is not possible, alternative arrangements may be able to be made.
Lion President, Jon Collins said: “This is always a highlight of our year and we know how much it is enjoyed by so many in our community. It always lifts our spirits running up to the last few weeks before Xmas Day and we are so grateful to everyone who makes this possible, especially everyone at The Sandy Lodge who happily host us year on year.”
