As midterm comes to an end and routines begin again, you might notice the Sunday nerves creeping in.

For some children, “I don’t want to go to school” isn’t about laziness, it’s anxiety. And while an occasional day off can feel like the quickest fix, long term support is what truly builds confidence.

Instead of removing the Monday, we can help them face it.

⭐️ Listen without rushing to solve
⭐️ Validate their feelings (“That sounds really hard”)
⭐️ Keep routines predictable and calm
⭐️ Work with the school where needed
⭐️ Remind them of times they coped before

When children feel understood and supported, they’re less likely to feel they need to escape.

If your child is struggling with school anxiety, you’re not alone, and neither are they. Reach out to our page to learn more about the supports available at Crisis Café.

Anger is loud💥💣
The feelings underneath aren’t.

Feeling left out.
Feeling unheard.
Anxiety.
Embarrassment.
Overwhelm.

When children don’t have the words, their emotions speak for them.

This Children’s Mental Health Week, let’s look beneath the behaviour and respond with understanding, not judgement.

If a young person is struggling with big feelings, Crisis Café Youth offers a safe, supportive space to talk.

Worry isn’t always loud...

Sometimes it looks like headaches before school.
Tummy aches with no clear cause.
Going quiet.
Getting snappy.
Saying “I’m fine” when they’re not.

Children don’t always have the words to articulate what’s going on inside. But feeling seen, heard and like they belong can make a powerful difference.

For Children’s Mental Health Week, we’re encouraging parents, carers and communities to check in gently and listen without judgement.

You don’t have to wait until things feel “serious enough” to reach out.

Support is available. offers a safe, professional space for young people to talk, create, connect and just breathe.

It’s Children’s Mental Health Week, and midterm can be a really important moment to pause and check in💬

Time off school can be a relief for some children, but for others it can bring big feelings, disrupted routines, or worries that don’t always show up as words. Supporting your child’s mental health doesn’t mean fixing everything. It means noticing, listening and creating space to feel safe.

Over midterm, simple things can really help:
• keeping some gentle structure
• offering check ins without pressure
• validating emotions, even when they’re hard to understand
• making time for rest, play and connection

This year’s theme reminds us that children’s wellbeing is shaped by the environments around them, at home, in school and in the wider community.

For trusted advice and practical resources during Children’s Mental Health Week, Place2Be has excellent support available for parents and carers.

And if extra support is needed, Crisis Café is here! No judgement, no pressure, just support 💛

Children’s Mental Health Week reminds us that belonging matters.
Feeling safe, seen and part of something (with friends, in school, and in our communities ) plays a huge role in our mental health and wellbeing.

Belonging isn’t a “nice extra”. It’s a basic human need.
When children and young people feel they have a place where they’re accepted, supported and valued, it can positively shape their confidence, relationships, learning and long term wellbeing.

This year, Place2Be is focusing on “This Is My Place” — encouraging families, schools, peers and communities to create inclusive, nurturing spaces where young people truly feel they belong.

At Crisis Café, we believe every young person deserves a space like that 💛

Support starts with connection, and no one has to find their place alone.
