You asked, we listened!

As part of our Customer Survey we've had a lot of requests for a 6pm Universal Reformer class. Well, your wish is our command! From December Universal Reformer will take place at 6pm on a Thursday, with Beginners Reformer at 7pm. And, of course, we also offer a later Universal Reformer class at 8pm!

It's already open for reservations, and December is always busy, so book now to secure your reformer.

Meet the teacher: Jamie Murphy

Jamie is one of our Matwork Magicians here at The Powerhouse, teaching Beginners Mat every Thursday at 7pm. He first began his Pilates journey back when Orlaith's studio was on Windsor Hill, so he's one of the OG clients!

Why did he become a Pilates teacher?
Jamie says, "Being a typical man I thought this Pilates was for woman but little did I know it was the missing link for me to move and feel better in the gym and while playing football." He continues, "After seeing the benefits of it I wanted to try and help people as well."

What moves does he like to teach the most?
"My favourite Pilates move has to be the seal. It’s a really challenging exercise. It looks silly but that’s what is important about Pilates you are working hard and having fun!"

Why does he love teaching?
"I really enjoy working with people and seeing people improve every week, no matter how big or small. It really is a highlight of my week getting to teach my class!"

Class types: Easy Movers!

Unsure which class is for you at The Powerhouse? Our Physio-led Easy Movers classes are specifically tailored for people who may have injuries or impingements, such as Osteoporosis, Arthritis or hip and joint pain. It's also suitable for people who are returning to exercise.

Don't let the name fool you, this class will challenge you! It has a special focus on building balance, strength and flexibility. Easy Movers is led by Orlaith and takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10.30am. This is one of the most popular classes on our timetable, so early booking is always advised.

Barre is a fun and dynamic exercise class using the ballet barre to focus on lower limb strength, flexibility and endurance , core control and breath.
This allows you more flexibility and more class options here at The Powerhouse!

Barre is back!

This November we are delighted that Barre returns to The Powerhouse. Aoife will be leading the class every Wednesday at 6pm from November 5.

Class types: Cardio Sweat!

Unsure which class is for you at The Powerhouse? Our Cardio Sweat class is the most challenging on the timetable and is not for beginners. We like all participants to be familiar with the Reformer as a piece of apparatus before coming to this class.

Movement here is Pilates inspired, but with elements of cardio, and strength and conditioning included too. Expect fewer breaks between reps and an increase in pace and difficulty of the movement offered. We will always modify for clients if needed, but this class is one that will challenge all.

Cardio Sweat is offered on Saturday mornings at 7am and 8am, and as one of the most popular on the timetable it's always advised to book in advance.

New to The Powerhouse? You can use our Beginners Reformer package (£57 for 6 classes) to book into Cardio Sweat, although we do ask that you have some experience of Reformer Pilates before joining this class.

Physio led pilates- learn from the best!

We are the ONLY place in Newry where you will find matwork, pregnancy, postnatal and reformer sessions under one roof, along with a specialist Women’s Health Physiotherapy service- catering for women of all ages.

As Physios, we know the value of keeping the body strong and supple at all stages of life and our classes cater for all abilities, including pregnancy and post natal classes. All classes are run by APPI qualified Physiotherapists. Physiotherapy can help put you “back in your body” after pregnancy and delivery and we believe all women should have access to postnatal care to improve their quality of life both now and for the years to come.

The Reformer is a large piece of Pilates equipment where we work with you 1:1 or in a group setting- using a spring loaded carriage to challenge, strengthen and stretch your body at your own pace. It is suitable for athletes, weekend warriors and those with chronic health conditions alike.

The Mummy MOT is a service for mums- suitable from six weeks but it is never “too late” to have a pelvic health check. The MOT is a full physiotherapist check of your posture, breathing, tummy muscles and pelvic floor. Any issues you may be experiencing are taken into account and a rehab programme designed specifically for you is given. It is recommended for all mums whether you are experiencing symptoms or not- put yourself in the driving seat of your recovery by getting to know where your body is at and how you can aid a return to pre-pregnancy levels of activity safely.
