👋 Meet Our Trainer Assessor, John O’Hanlon — From Completing His Training to Becoming a Trainer 👋

The Level 3 Education & Training qualification is more than a certificate, it’s a career-shaping opportunity. John has shared how he transitioned into a full-time training role at Health Matters after a long career in the leisure industry.

After 40+ years delivering lifeguard and first aid training, John completed the level 3 qualification to formalise his experience. Today, he’s doing what he loves — teaching lifesaving skills and empowering learners with the confidence to act in emergencies. The most rewarding part of his role is hearing from leaners who complete his courses feeling prepared, capable and inspired.

🌸 International Women’s Day Spotlight 🌸

Paulette Pinkerton’s story is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to achieve your goals.

Completing her NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice, a qualification equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, is something Paulette never imagined when she left school without progressing to A Levels or university. She describes the experience as proving to herself that she could do it, boosting her confidence and showing just how much she was capable of. Completing the NVQ Level 6 has not only strengthened her professional profile, but positioned her as a trusted health and safety leader within Version 1.

Her advice to anyone considering the course? 👉 "Don’t let fear hold you back — take the leap and you’ll be proud you did"

🌸 Celebrating Women in Health & Safety Careers this International Women’s Day 🌸

Shauna McKay’s journey is a fantastic example of dedication, growth, inspiration and achievement. After beginning her career with the NEBOSH General Certificate in 2011, completing her NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety Practice marks a meaningful milestone in her professional journey.

Shauna describes the qualification as bringing a real sense of achievement, made even more rewarding while contributing to an award-winning safety culture at AG Wilson, including being shortlisted for Wellbeing at Work at the Responsible Business Awards and winning the CEF Excellence Awards for Health, Safety & Wellbeing this year 🏆

Her advice to others? 👉 “Just do it — if you’re already working in the field, it’s a fantastic way to formalise your expertise.”
