Acknowledgment and Month’s Mind for the late Sister Brigid Daly RIP.
SR BRIGID DALY
It is with deep gratitude that the Sisters of Mercy acknowledges the support and prayers received from past pupils, neighbours, friends and colleagues, throughout Sister Brigid’s wake and funeral. Those quiet, gentle hours of repose in Daniel Mallon’s Funeral Home, Bessbrook, provided an opportunity for all of us to hear, share and reflect on Brigid’s long life and how she reached out to so many, both young and old. It was also an opportunity to discover just how much Brigid was loved, by all who knew and worked with her.
Sincere thanks is extended to the many medical teams, doctors, nurses and carers, who worked tirelessly to ensure Brigid received the help she required, which enabled her to live her last years as comfortably as possible.
Special thanks to the Management and staff of Avila Nursing Home, Convent Hill, Bessbrook, Brigid’s home for the last seven years, their care and friendship made the lonely times bearable and the fun times memorable.
The Mercy Congregation and Brigid’s family, take this opportunity to thank Daniel Mallon, Funeral Director, Old Mill, Bessbrook, and his staff, for their sensitivity, gentle support and care, following Sr Brigid’s unexpected death. Their Funeral Home was a sacred, peaceful space, where we could be with Brigid, in her final hours with us.
Brigid’s Funeral Mass was celebrated in The Good Shepherd Church, Cloughreagh, by Father Aidan Dunne, Father Sean Larkin and assisted by Deacon Philip Carder.
The music, chosen in advance by Sr Brigid, provided by Sr Teresa Martin and Kathleen Moore, was a reflection of Brigid’s life and love of church music and song.
The children and staff from St Joseph’s Primary School, where Sr Brigid worked, formed a guard of honour in the Convent grounds, ignoring the wind and rain.
Sr Brigid was then interred in the Sisters Cemetery, at the back of the Convent, in a plot carefully prepared by Matthew, surrounded by beautiful green lawns and shrubs. It was fitting that she was gently lowered into her eternal resting place by Daniel and special friends of the Mercy Sisters from Bessbrook, where she was valued and respected for over seventy-three years.
Sr Brigid’s Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated on Sunday 11th January at 11.30 am in The Good Shepherd Church, Cloughreagh.
May she rest in everlasting peace on Bessbrook’s ‘Hill of Prayer’
