Drinking alcohol is another risk factor for Oesophageal cancer

13% of oesophageal cancer cases in the UK are caused by alcohol drinking.

A study has shown that;
Only 1.5 units of alcohol daily increases risk by 34%
Drinking up to 6 units per day increases that risk by just over 2.5 times
Drinking over 6 units daily increases the risk by 5 and a half times.
This is compared to compared with non- or occasional drinkers.
The risk increase is independent of, but compounded by, smoking.

The study (meta-analysis) When comparing the highest and lowest alcohol intake over time the difference in occurrence is over 6 and a half times.

When looking at the chart where is your intake?

Oesophageal cancer in the UK

Around 9,400 people are diagnosed each year. In men, it’s the 9th most common cancer, with 1 in 54 affected in their lifetime. Rates in men have risen by 10% since the 1990s.

What’s often overlooked? Around 59% of cases are considered preventable.

Genetics matter, but so do the habits we grow up with and carry into adulthood. What feels “normal” can quietly increase risk. Changing behaviours isn’t easy, but it can make a real difference.

Do you think genes or lifestyle has the bigger impact on our health?

Delighted to be part of the reflux revolution. Watch the video to find our how I can help you.

2025 was a huge year for me with regards to raising awareness of the impact of PPIs when used for longer than necessary in simple reflux cases and how safe removal can be managed when clinically appropriate and this is a deeply personal mission for me. For the last 2 years I have personally trained....

☕ Grab a cuppa and give me 15 minutes.

This short video highlights the power of Vitamin D and why low levels are linked to a wide range of illnesses — from infections to chronic disease.

Despite this being known for years, Vitamin D is rarely tested, even though:

We live in a low-sunlight climate

We’re advised to limit sun exposure

Most people are deficient, not excessive

Adequate Vitamin D supports:
✔️ Immune function
✔️ Bone health
✔️ Cell repair and DNA health

If you’re prone to respiratory infections, managing stress, living with a chronic condition, or just want clarity — knowing your numbers matters.

💡 A simple, low-cost blood test can tell you if your levels are optimal.

January is behind us… and if you’re like most people, the New Year resolutions might be too 😅

February arrives with love hearts, pancakes, and the annual “I’ll give something up” challenge (usually chocolate). But here’s the thing… winter isn’t finished yet.

Hearty, warming meals are still exactly what the body needs. March has a habit of being bitterly cold, so now is not the time for salads (unless warm) and willpower.

Think root veg, greens, good protein and proper meals that travel well in lunch boxes. These foods nourish you from top to toe and keep energy steady through long days.

No fads. No guilt. Just food that works with the season.

What are your go-to foods in this weather?
