Ironically this is my third attempt at reading this book. Twice before I have started but got distracted 🙄
Distractions can take many forms, sometimes we are distracted by priorities such as family life or work commitments. But I find personally that many of my distractions are not big life events, in fact they are everyday things that steal my attention or draw me in.
Oftentimes we laugh and dismiss our distractions however those very distractions may mean that we ignore friends, miss valuable time with our children or let work and home life tasks build up.
Nir Eyal’s first message in this book is to recognise that distraction starts from within. It is more than our devices such as phones, tvs, gaming consoles, Instagram, TikTok and endless shows on Netflix or any number of streaming platforms. Cutting these out does not solve the problem on its own.
I recall from previous efforts to read the book that two strategies recommended to create traction (the opposite of distraction) is making a pact and time scheduling. My pact is to focus on reading this book for 15 mins three days a week. Anything more than that is a bonus. Scheduling it into my diary will help me achieve this goal 😊
