Finally treating the last 50 Christmas Trees for giant black aphid following an infestation several weeks ago. Although the common wasp is not a placid insect it has an evident use in relation to aphid control…. if the wasps are around a particular tree it’s likely Aphids are on that specimen. Also ladybirds and other insects are beneficial to help with aphid control. The product we have used deal with the infestation is Neem oil-less harmful to other insects and nature. 🐝 🎄😊❤️👍

Over the last 10 days working hours at the farm has dramatically increased due to Christmas Trees requiring the following:

Bird protection sticks
Pruning
Dealing with an infestation of giant black Aphids….

The treatment used to wipe out the Aphids is Neem oil. This product was chosen due to its efficiency and also as a natural product it is kind to the environment and will not harm other insects apart from those unwanted Aphids on the trees. Netherton Christmas tree farm has high considerations towards nature to reduce the impact on the wildlife in an outstanding area of natural beauty. as well as care of the trees, we will continue to add plants to the area which are beneficial to insects and wildlife.

Following a very busy weekend, which included time out with friends and family, assessing the trees at the farm-we have an outbreak of black aphids. As a result, I’ve looked into natural remedies to eradicate the problem which includes purchase of ladybirds, lacewings and other insects to add to the area. In addition to purchase of insects which are friends to the trees a natural spray remedy is dishwasher soap and water mix, also Neem spray…. The reasons for natural solutions to the Aphid problem is clearly to avoid chemical spray as this also has an impact on the wildlife and upsets the natural balance. Chemical spray clearly is effective unfortunately it harms natural predators which help reduce Aphids….

New plants added to a lawn area which will soon be completely reworked, also further changes/additions to an area in our lower plantation which is used by our in house florist. Some new additions include two bird tables, a picket gate taken from elsewhere where at the farm and re-hung to allow easy access to the large planted area currently progressing well, and a natural bench recently made. Also photos of the horses using the recently built feed station and large amount of grass cutting this weekend.

A month since our last update regarding farm requirements, however two days ago we completed some alterations as well as maintenance. Mainly ground works. The last few photos show ground preparation to a section of the lower paddock as we now have an in-house Florist. The rabbit proof fencing will be secured into position early next week then the area is ready for planting, also added two new bird boxes and made a small birdfeeder.
