Seborrhoeic keratoses (often called SKs or seborrhoeic warts) are common, harmless skin growths that tend to appear as we get older.
They are not contagious and not cancerous, though they can sometimes look worrying or become irritated.
π How to Recognise Them
Seborrhoeic keratoses often:
β’ Have a waxy, βstuck-onβ appearance
β’ Can be light brown, dark brown, grey, or black
β’ Vary in size from a few millimetres to several centimetres
β’ May become itchy or catch on clothing
β’ Commonly appear on the chest, back, shoulders, or face
If you ever notice a lesion changing in colour, shape, or bleeding without reason, itβs important to have it checked to rule out skin cancer.
βοΈ Cryotherapy Treatment
As a Nurse Practitioner, I can confidently recognise and safely remove suitable seborrhoeic keratoses using cryotherapy β a quick, effective treatment that uses nitrous oxide to freeze the lesion.
Benefits:
β’ Quick and minimally invasive
β’ No need for stitches or anaesthetic
β’ Helps smooth and clear the skinβs appearance
β’ Low downtime
