We've added some different craft activities today for our fine motor crafts. π₯π

At Tree Tops, our OTs and OTAs love to use an obstacle course as it supports engagement and develops lots of different skills, including motor planning, sequencing, balance, and problem solving. For those reluctant to engage in fine motor tasks, these can be incorporated too, such as maintaining a tight grip with tongs to develop hand strength to support handwriting and using cutlery.

Our Occupational Therapists work with students in schools from pre-school and continue right through education.
In our partnership schools, we help students achieve with writing, daily living skills, following instructions, aiding concentration, regulation and transitions. We also help school staff by conducting training and helping them run motor skills and sensory diet programmes.
A big "thank you" Hadrian Park Primary School for your wonderful testimonial of how our OT, Sam, has helped in your school. Your staff have also been eager to learn from the training conducted which has led to this success.
Keep up the fab work and we look forward to hearing of many more improvements in the future months π

A sensory meltdown is an uncontrollable reaction to sensory overload on the central nervous system. It can happen at any time and the trigger can be different for each person. The daily environment can continually attack the central nervous system until overload takes over.

Here is a lovely Easter breathing technique that is a great coping strategy if your child is feeling anxious.
π₯ Place your finger on the start of one of the breathe in arrows.
π₯ Take a deep breath in as you follow the arrow.
π₯ At the start of the next arrow, begin to breathe out.
π₯ Follow this pattern around the Easter chick several times (slowly and rhythmically).
Your child should feel nice and relaxed by this time. π

Playing with building blocks is a fun and imaginative activity π
It not only helps a child's fine motor skills but encourages creativity, develops spatial awareness, problem solving and enhances social skills as they learn to work together π
23/03/2026
It's nearly Easter to so we have added some more fine motor craft activities. π₯π£
Just by using scissors, squeezing glue bottles, threading, sensory and manipulating play paper will build upon hand-eye coordination, dexterity and finger strength.
Have fun π

Our Tip of the Week is all about being calm π§ββοΈπ
Deep breathing helps with the 'fight or flight' response which is triggered by stress or even sensory overload. Once you start the deep breathing exercise, it works immediately to help change your physiological state, reducing blood pressure, lowering your heart rate and easing muscle tension π
It can also be conducted discreetly.

Today is World Down Syndrome Day.
Every year on 21 March, we celebrate this day as it represents the 21st chromosome present in people with Down Syndrome.
This year, the focus is on "Together Against Loneliness" so it is important to remember to include everyone. It is important to have good friendships and relationships and to feel valued.
Not only are we being asked to wear odd socks for this special day, but the Tree Tops team are also taking part in the Down Syndrome Sunflower Challengeπ»! Whether you are growing sunflowers or wearing odd socks, send us your π·π
Watch out for our updates over the coming weeks to see how our sunflowers are coming along. There will even be a prize for the tallest!
If you are a Tree Topper attending our intervention sessions, we still have a few sunflower seeds left if you would like one but get planting if you have your own and join in our competition!

Tree Tops has been developed with great foundations in the knowledge of assessment and treatment techniques of children and adults. Our therapists have extensive knowledge into conditions such as DCD, Dyspraxia, ADHD, Attachment Disorder, and Sensory Processing Difficulties. Post graduate training in Sensory Integration has allowed us to introduce this specialised treatment to children and adults on a daily basis to develop their underlying difficulties.
Tree Tops work with many schools, charities and voluntary organisations. We can provide valuable training and programmes which helps with gross/fine motor skills, handwriting, building self-esteem, confidence, behaviour and perception.
Fizzwig (our mascot) and the Tree Topper teddy bears are a vital part of our organisation and go on many adventures with the children or help them with their programmes. Check out our website to see what they all get up to!
We also have a private sensory parent support group which you are more than welcome to join. Here is the link:- https://www.facebook.com/groups/spdpsg/ . A youth group has also been set up which is run through a secret page. If you would like more information please email our office.
Tree Tops are proud to make a difference to the ability to achieve, happiness and well-being of our children experiencing motor and sensory difficulties. The reviews and testimonials we have received ensure we continue with the service we are passionate about.
In 2019 we were asked to take part in the The Parliamentary Review. The aims of this are to share best practice amongst policymakers/business leaders, commissioning articles on events of the year and contributorsβ areas of expertise. Over 1m copies will be distributed. A range of businesses from several sectors have written for this; the aim being to get their message out to the country at large, to inform policymakers, assist their peers, and ultimately raise standards.
Tree Tops has contributed to the 2019 Parliamentary Review and celebrated the publication at a Gala event in the Houses of Parliament on the 4/9/19. Our article focused on understanding sensory processing difficulties (SPD), in particular the many difficulties our children experience in education from academically under-performing to anxiety/potentially exclusions. The article strives to explain how sensory processing difficulties can result in challenging behaviours and affect a childβs social/emotional well-being. Our message was to stress how effective our interventions can be within the school environment to help children access learning, but give school staff more tools to target many youngsterβs complex needs. Tree Tops endeavours to educate schools to understand SPD and integrate interventions into the classroom routine. We firmly believe if Head Teachers understood that by working in partnership with Tree Tops all children would have more chance of success whilst reducing resources needed to support them in the long term.
