Tree Tops has been developed with great foundations in the knowledge of assessment and treatment techniques of children. The therapists have extensive knowledge into conditions of DCD, Dyspraxia, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorders. Post graduate training in Sensory Integration has allowed us to introduce this specialised treatment to children on a daily basis to develop their underlying difficulties. We also have a private sensory parent support group which you are more than welcome to join.

What is the difference? π€
Well, hypersensitivity is an overreaction to sensory input which leads to a child feeling overwhelmed.
Hyposensitivity is un underreaction where the child needs more intensive stimulation to engage them in activities.
Do you recognise this in your child - π or π?

Bilateral integration is any movement that requires you to use both sides of the body. πͺ
It is also the foundation skill for many daily activities (using cutlery or scissors, brushing teeth or hair, fine motor skills (drawing, writing) and gross motor skills (cycling, football, throwing a ball).
If your child struggles in the above areas, try some of the ideas in the flyer. π

Balance plays an important part in our daily lives. β
Can you recognise any of these in you or your child?

Is your child a sensory seeker? Check out our symptom list. πͺ
Sensory seeking is when a child craves or seeks more sensory input to feel regulated.
They are trying to meet their sensory needs, not misbehaving.

Concluding OT week, we wanted to let you know that at Tree Tops Occupational Therapy, our staff support children (and adults) to participate fully in their daily lives - at home, in school/work, and in play. From helping children understand their sensory world to building motor skills confidence and independence, every small step counts.
Take a look at our video to discover some examples of how our Paediatric Occupational Therapists help children feel safe, focused, and successful in the spaces that matter most π

OT Week!
If your child is dyspraxic (DCD), school will be a very challenging environment for them due to:
π¨π»βπ« Poor fine and gross motor skills - affects handwriting, P.E
π¨π»βπ« Organisational skills
π¨π»βπ« Processing information
π¨π»βπ« Following instructions
π¨π»βπ« Poor social skills with peers
π¨π»βπ« Sensory overload - smells, sights, sounds
This can then lead to your child displaying low self-esteem, anxiety, frustration and meltdowns.

Sensory challenges πππ
Restaurants and school dining halls can trigger many different sensory issues from visual, auditory, smell, tastes, textures, lights and not forgetting temperature!
Sensory overload and anxiety can cause a child or person to have problems eating the food in this type of environment (even at home). They can become over or even under responsive to the various sensory stimuli.
If you need some advice in this area, speak to a sensory integration trained occupational therapist. Give us a call. π

Tree Tops has been developed with great foundations in the knowledge of assessment and treatment techniques of children and adults. Our therapists have extensive knowledge into conditions such as DCD, Dyspraxia, ADHD, Attachment Disorder, and Sensory Processing Difficulties. Post graduate training in Sensory Integration has allowed us to introduce this specialised treatment to children and adults on a daily basis to develop their underlying difficulties.
Tree Tops work with many schools, charities and voluntary organisations. We can provide valuable training and programmes which helps with gross/fine motor skills, handwriting, building self-esteem, confidence, behaviour and perception.
Fizzwig (our mascot) and the Tree Topper teddy bears are a vital part of our organisation and go on many adventures with the children or help them with their programmes. Check out our website to see what they all get up to!
We also have a private sensory parent support group which you are more than welcome to join. Here is the link:- https://www.facebook.com/groups/spdpsg/ . A youth group has also been set up which is run through a secret page. If you would like more information please email our office.
Tree Tops are proud to make a difference to the ability to achieve, happiness and well-being of our children experiencing motor and sensory difficulties. The reviews and testimonials we have received ensure we continue with the service we are passionate about.
In 2019 we were asked to take part in the The Parliamentary Review. The aims of this are to share best practice amongst policymakers/business leaders, commissioning articles on events of the year and contributorsβ areas of expertise. Over 1m copies will be distributed. A range of businesses from several sectors have written for this; the aim being to get their message out to the country at large, to inform policymakers, assist their peers, and ultimately raise standards.
Tree Tops has contributed to the 2019 Parliamentary Review and celebrated the publication at a Gala event in the Houses of Parliament on the 4/9/19. Our article focused on understanding sensory processing difficulties (SPD), in particular the many difficulties our children experience in education from academically under-performing to anxiety/potentially exclusions. The article strives to explain how sensory processing difficulties can result in challenging behaviours and affect a childβs social/emotional well-being. Our message was to stress how effective our interventions can be within the school environment to help children access learning, but give school staff more tools to target many youngsterβs complex needs. Tree Tops endeavours to educate schools to understand SPD and integrate interventions into the classroom routine. We firmly believe if Head Teachers understood that by working in partnership with Tree Tops all children would have more chance of success whilst reducing resources needed to support them in the long term.
