Saturday Stretch 🤤 (one to try tomorrow)

This is one you can try at home…

Upper traps stretch: Gently pull with one hand your head to one side by bringing your ear towards your shoulder. To create a bigger stretch place your other hand on the opposite shoulder and gently pull the shoulder towards the floor.
Hold for 20-30seconds and repeat 3-5 times

This is a great stretch for those of you who work from a desk using laptop/phone a lot🧑🏽‍💻📱or if you have any tightness in your upper traps

🦵🏽Soft Tissue Release calfs🦵🏽

The calf muscles are situated on the back of the lower leg and are made up of the gastrocnemius and soleus.

Here I am using a technique called soft tissue release with the cups. The cups were placed on the calf when it was relaxed and shortened position, foot in dorsiflexion. I asked my client to point toes and then draw toes back towards the shin. This stretch can be quite intense but the client has complete control of how much 🔥

SLIDING 🛹

Stationary cupping is what people think of first when they hear the word cupping.

Sliding cupping is a method using massage oil/cream being applied to the skin. A cup is then placed on the treatment area and it easily glides up and down or side to side.
Sliding is great for using over bigger muscle groups with pain/muscle spasm and the suction in the cups can be adjusted to your preference.

It’s is an effective method however, can feel a bit more intense than static cupping.
There is less chance you will bruise and won’t have circles all over you 😅

Are you up for trying cupping or sliding? 🤔

Dry Cupping Marks ⠀

A lot of people think of the Olympics when they see cupping marks. Micheal Phelps being one of the first and people wondered what the marks were on his back🤷🏼‍♂️ ⠀

The reason for that is the cups create a vacuum effect which draws fresh blood to the area. The dark circles simply indicate that there has been a build up of stagnant blood or tension, therefore the darker the marks the worse that area is (worse on fair skin). The area can also go a white colour which could indicate poor circulation. ⠀

The marks left behind are not bruises‼️⠀

Marks can last up to 5-20 days although it’s usually around 10 days (You don’t want to be rocking big circles at a party or on holiday either😂). Marks are usually darker in your first treatment, however can be reduced if you drink plenty of water after💧

Benefits of Dry Cupping 👌

• Increases the circulation to the muscle, fascia and skin, which increases oxygenation and nutrient levels within the soft tissue
• Reduces pain, muscular tension and irritation
• Aids in the removal of chemical irritants and helps with the removal of stagnant blood and brings fresh blood to the area ⠀
• Promotes the healing process and reduces odema ⠀

Cupping is a great modality and can be used in conjunction with sport massage or singular treatments 🤩
