The Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland scheme is a Scottish Government supported national scheme, but being implemented by locally by NHS Boards including NHS Borders!
🏪 Over 4,000 cafés, restaurants, and other public venues across the country have signed up to show they welcome and support breastfeeding families.

This simple but powerful commitment helps create a culture where feeding your baby in public feels normal, supported, and respected.

We’re proud to work alongside Third Sector partners and local businesses to make this happen – and it’s making a real difference. More families are breastfeeding in Scotland, and schemes like this one are part of the reason why.

🤱Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland Early Learning Scheme🤱

After a successful pilot the Breastfeeding Friendly Early Learning Scheme is being rolled out across Scotland and in our beautiful Scottish Borders.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The Early Learning Scheme aims to normalise and introduce breastfeeding before any negative attitudes are formed by supporting nurseries and early years/learning settings (including childminders) to:

⭐promote a breastfeeding friendly environment
⭐support families and colleagues who breastfeed
⭐learn more about the benefits of breastfeeding

Early Learning & Childcare settings are also encouraged to:

🔸adopt a Breastfeeding and Returning to Work policy to assure pregnant and breastfeeding employees that should they wish to; they will be supported to continue breastfeeding on return to work

🔸be aware of local services where breastfeeding families can access support and information and to signpost families to this support if desired.

The vision is for Scotland to become a breastfeeding friendly society, valuing breastfeeding and supporting mothers and babies to breastfeed wherever and whenever they wish -normalising breastfeeding in all communities across Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

🫵 Are you an early learning setting or childminder interested in signing up to the scheme? For more information contact us at: breastfeeding.friendly@borders.scot.nhs.uk
