Sports massage
When you take your body to its limits regularly in your favoured sport, that body needs to be in top shape. The joints need to be mobile, the muscles supple, you need your flexibility and range of movement maintained. You stretch, you drink plenty (of water of course), you eat the right food – and you also book in regularly for sports massage with your favourite therapist to help keep the soft tissue in check. It is a fantastic way to help prevent injury – just consider the time recovery takes away from your sport… this alone is enough to send you on a google search frenzy for your nearest therapist! However if you have already attained said injury, the massage will help shorten the recovery time and help you regain your full strength and mobility. But you don’t need to be a sports person to benefit from sports massage: pain or injuries occur from a wide range of activities. Prolonged sitting will shorten the hip flexors, repetitive movements can cause tendonitis, and lifting heavy things the wrong way can wreak havoc on your back. Sports massage goes deep and targets the problem areas. Read between the lines there -you will not once confuse it with a nice relaxing rub I guarantee you; but you will feel all the better for it afterwards I promise. Swedish massage
One of the most common types of massage, Swedish is the base of most western types of massages and it provides a very light touch massage that is aimed purely for relaxation. Long slow strokes, bringing ease to muscles, improves circulation and overall wellbeing. Deep tissue relaxation massage
It lies somewhere between Swedish and Sports massage. Deep tissue massage goes deep enough to give the muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles) a good do over by tackling knots and aches, but it aims to make you go floppy on the couch instead of hissing in pain. It is like an MOT for the body to keep it ticking over. The mental health benefits also cannot be overstated: the hour you take for yourself in a healthy fit of “selfishness” gives you a rare opportunity to switch on the parasympathetic nervous system that invites much needed rest and space for healing. A treasured chance to switch off from our overstimulated environment, it is not a holiday treat but a regular necessity. Disclaimer: It may make you give less f**ks about stuff. Definitely avoid in the event of a zombie apocalypse. Chocolate massage
Do I even need to say anything here to tantalize you? It is chocolate. And massage. Together. Guilt free heaven. So this is a lovely deep tissue massage with lots of long gliding movements, and the medium used is my homemade chocolate massage bars which are based on raw cacao butter and little else. No additives, just pure raw organic cacao goodness, maybe enhanced with some coconut oil or vanilla…
If you need any more convincing here are some facts: If you love having amazingly healthy soft skin, you can’t go long without cacao butter. Raw cacao butter contains high levels of antioxidants which help fight off free radicals, reducing signs of stress and aging. Antioxidants give the skin a plumper, firmer feel and help skin cells build collagen and elastin. It contains vitamin E, calcium, potassium and magnesium which re-mineralise the skin. Cacao butter is extremely moisturizing and valuable for dry skin, eczema and rough patches. Raw cacao powder is a powerhouse of a huge amount of minerals, mood enhancer elements, caffeine and theobromine that function to stimulate blood circulation. Cacao powder is a superfood and its positive effects cannot be overstated. It can actually give you a certain high when consumed correctly (and that is not your local chocolate bar so don’t you dare use that as an excuse). Some people also insist that they get the same high from chocolate massages as they do from eating chocolate – but without the calories. Amen to that. Some of the massage bars contain organic coconut oil which again is a blessing for the skin in itself. It has powerful anti-microbial agents, antioxidants, vitamin E, saturated fats for protecting the skin from drying out. All of this enhances the anti-aging healing effects of the cacao butter beautifully. Just one last thing. At the end of the massage you will smell deliciously chocolatey. Please do not get it before going to work unless you plan to attract lots of attention. Also don’t get one if you are planning to get rid of that wasps’ nest in your garage or will babysit a horde of hungry toddlers straight after. Lymphatic drainage massage
It is a very gentle massage as it does not work with the muscles as much as it aims to help the drainage of lymph fluids from the body. The lymph system is part of your body’s immune system and helps you fight infections and diseases. It usually works just fine by itself: the lymph fluid swishes around carrying white blood cells that are to target foreign bodies in our system. However due to poor diet or insufficient exercise the lymph nodes can become restricted and slow down the filtering process. This leads to a build-up of toxins and that is never a good thing, right? Pain, swelling, lowering energy levels are the usual signs. Prananadi energy treatment
Prananadi is a Tibetan healing energy method. Prana is energy, we cannot live without it. The nadis are the small energy channels in the body that take up this energy. Prananadi originates from thousands of years ago; it has been used in Tibet and Nepal in monasteries to heal a wide variety of illnesses. The simple method of energy channelling targets most of the body especially the organs and have a profound effect in clearing the blocked energy channels. We naturally take up energy from our environment as it is freely available all around us. However the unclean environment we live in, the unhealthy habits we keep and the mental and emotional traumas we encounter greatly affect our energy system which can becomes blocked and sluggish. The energy channels and blockages that developed can be freed to provide truly incredible results in physical and mental healing. It is successfully used in halving recovery time after any injury, in relieving pain, revitalising the person. Even broken bones (after they have been set by a professional!) heal at an incredible rate. A few treatments close to each other are first recommended for the proper clearing of the energy channels. Most people drift off during treatment as it is an amazingly calming method. Massage and Prananadi
Get the best of both worlds. Receive a relaxing massage until you are all floppy then get filled up on energy while you are at your most relaxed state for the ultimate inner healing journey. Coupling these two make for an amazing experience and I promise you that you will sleep like a baby that night. Aromatherapy massage
Essential oils have been long prized for their potent healing properties. They can affect your mood, alleviate pain, help the body detoxify. Some are simply amazing for the skin. You can choose what effect you wish to achieve with the massage, whether you want to feel relaxed, invigorated, or rather feel the physical effects for pain relief, battling congestion and so on. Whatever the intention is there will be an oil for that. You get to help to choose the correct mixture for yourself which will be applied with a lovely gentle Swedish massage to the soothing sound of whales singing on the iPod in the background (or something like that). The essential oils will be mixed in a carrier oil or cream, and a vaporiser is also used to inhale the oils for faster results. Bit of a blissful hour really.

Early photo of the refreshed massage room!
We have managed to repaint and throw out most of the old furniture from it! It's more spacious, clean, and is absolutely amazing.
Saying that, it's still half baked - i can only do small steps as my daughter struggles with change so that slows us down. I'll continue and hopefully finish everything i wanted to do with it early next year.
Till then, we'll all enjoy this upgraded amazing space 😁❤️❤️❤️
