Gotta love the suggestion from the council representative that children can just have their SLT sessions "outside of school hours". Cos that works so well for children who've been masking a communication disorder all day and are already significantly fatigued 🤦🏼‍♀️ It also shows a total lack of desire to work in partnership with other professionals.

In August 2025, East Lothian Council made an abrupt policy change which prevents independent practitioners from working with children in schools, regardless of professional registrations held. They have done this without consultation or any clear rationale, and this is happening elsewhere in Scotland too. Ever wondered why independent SLT is priced as it is? Here is a new copy of an assessment stimulus book I had to buy as the old one was so well used it was falling to bits. A 110 page picture book costs £212 and that doesn't include the non-photocopiable record forms (approx £5 each)! 😵 AND this is only one of a range of about 10 assessments I use regularly to look at different areas of communication. AND it's actually one of the cheaper assessments 🤑 Remember that NHS services also face these costs, they are just hidden from view...
