At NPC Nelson, the team reflected on how accessible their services truly were after recognising that some patients communicate through BSL. When they struggled to find the right training, they took the initiative to create their own learning environment — introducing basic signs in reception, sharing a ‘sign of the day’ in daily huddles, and even learning a Christmas song in BSL together.
This proactive approach is helping to break down communication barriers and ensure every patient feels seen, heard and valued.
