- A personal thank you from our very own Julia

At Turnbull’s, we often talk about how much it means to be trusted with a family’s care. But every so often, that trust becomes even more personal.

Recently, our very own Julia – who many of you will have been warmly greeted by in our office reception – found herself in the heartbreaking position of arranging funerals for both her mum and her gran. Julia has been part of the Turnbull’s family for years, so when the time came, she knew exactly who she wanted to look after her loved ones.

“I see every day how much care and attention the team puts into looking after families. Knowing that my mum and gran were in the same hands gave me real peace and comfort at such a difficult time,” Julia told us.

Working within our team, Julia understands the difference that genuine care, attention to detail, and compassion can make. She took great comfort in knowing exactly how her family would be cared for — both behind the scenes and on the day itself.

Some people have asked if it’s been hard for her to come back to work after such personal loss. But Julia says it’s quite the opposite.

“If anything, I feel I can do my job even better now. I truly understand how families feel when they walk through our doors, and how much the little things mean,” she shared.

We’re so proud that we could be there for Julia, just as she’s always there for the families who come to us. Her strength and empathy remind us why this work matters so much. Because every family deserves to be cared for as if they were our own.

- STILL STANDING GUARD
I’ve shared this image before, and many of you commented on how moving the Ghost Soldiers are.

Each November, seeing them at Preston Cemetery feels just as emotional as the first time.

Their presence makes every cortege passing through that drive even more poignant — a moment to pause, respect, and remember.

We will never forget the sacrifices made by so many from our own community.

STANDING GUARD
They stand in silence, side by side,
For those who fought, for those who died.
A shadowed form, a glowing light,
A memory held in morning’s quiet.
At Preston gates, they keep their watch,
For every name, for every loss.

🌊 A Heartfelt Way to Keep a Loved One’s Journey Going…

We came across this online and it really touched us.

Inside a washed-up bottle was a note that read:

“This is my mum.
Throw her back in, she’s travelling the world.
Thanks, Sharon – Wollongong, Australia.”

There is something beautifully poetic about the idea of someone continuing their journey, carried gently from shore to shore — as if the world is giving them one last adventure. ❤️

Farewells today are becoming more personal and deeply meaningful, shaped by the unique life and personality of the person we’re remembering.

🕯️ Proud to Support Our Local Winter Memorial Service 🤍

At Turnbull’s, we’re proud to once again support North Tyneside Council’s Bereavement Service and this year’s Winter Memorial Service, taking place at Tynemouth Crematorium on Wednesday 26 November at 2pm.

This annual gathering offers a gentle and meaningful way for anyone who has lost a loved one to come together, reflect, and remember. The service is open to everyone, regardless of faith or belief, and includes readings, music, and a quiet moment of reflection.

You may notice the little robin featured on the service artwork — a comforting symbol for many, believed to represent loved ones visiting or watching over us. A small reminder that those we miss are never far away. ❤️🪶

Each guest will also receive a wildflower ornament, made from paper containing wildflower seeds. You’ll be invited to write the name of your loved one and either take the ornament home to plant, or leave it to hang on the Christmas tree in the Crematorium’s Book of Remembrance Room, before being placed in the Garden of Remembrance. 🌿

Light refreshments will be served afterwards, offering time to share memories and gently connect with others who understand.

We’re honoured to support this service alongside some wonderful local partners — Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Cruse Bereavement Support, Bloom, and the North Tyneside Learning Trust — all of whom do incredible work within our community.

✨ If you’re looking for a gentle space to remember a loved one this winter, we warmly invite you to join us. Whether you come alone, with family, or with a friend, you’ll be met with care, understanding, and community.
