Some of the most distressing moments in dementia care come from things that feel very real to the person experiencing them… even when they’re not.

This powerful post from Alzheimer’s Society highlights how delusions can show up, from believing someone is stealing, to feeling unsafe in their own home.

If you support someone living with dementia, this is a must-read. It’s a reminder that behind every accusation or fear is confusion, not intention 💙

Understanding the why can completely change how we respond, with more patience, more empathy, and less frustration.

👉 Take a moment to read and share, you never know who might need this today
👉 Let’s keep raising awareness and supporting each other

‘I don’t know you. You’re stealing from me. I want to go home.'

Delusions can be one of the most challenging symptoms of dementia. They often appear as paranoia, false accusations, or a belief that familiar people or places have changed.

As dementia progresses, the brain can struggle to link memories, information and context correctly. This can lead to misunderstandings, misinterpretations and false conclusions.

Sensory changes (like reduced hearing or vision), medication effects, loneliness and unfamiliar environments can also increase the risk.

You can support someone experiencing delusions by:
- Acknowledging their feelings
- Avoiding arguing or correcting
- Gently exploring what might be behind the belief
- Offering reassurance and a calm presence
- Helping look for misplaced items if theft is suspected
- Remembering that their accusations aren't personal

Understanding why delusions occur can make it easier to respond with patience and empathy 💙

[Image description: An infographic titled 'Delusions and paranoia in dementia can look like' features seven illustrations depicting the following text: Believing their home isn’t their home; Suspecting someone; is stealing from them; Feeling watched; Believing their partner is being unfaithful; Feeling people are conspiring against them; Thinking people want to poison them; and Believing a loved one is an imposter An Alzheimer's Society logo is positioned in the bottom right corner of the graphic.]

Choosing care for a loved one isn’t an easy decision.

We speak to families every week who feel unsure, worried, or even a bit guilty...and that’s completely normal.

The truth is, good care isn’t about taking anything away. It’s about helping people stay independent, safe, and comfortable in their own home for as long as possible.

Sometimes, it starts with just a little bit of support… and makes a big difference.

If you’re starting to think about care, even if you’re not sure yet, we’re always here for a friendly chat.

We’re not just looking for carers… we’re looking for the right people.

You know the type... kind, reliable, good sense of humour, and the sort of person who’ll put the kettle on without being asked ☕

Experience is great, but it’s your attitude that really matters. We can support you with the rest.

If you want a job where you actually make a difference (and go home knowing you’ve done something worthwhile), we’d love to hear from you.

Flexible hours available. Full & part-time roles.

Whether it’s a roast dinner, a chocolate egg (or a few!), or simply a quiet day, we hope today brings a little bit of comfort and joy.

We’re proud to be there for those moments.

If you’re thinking about care for yourself or a loved one, we’re always here for a friendly conversation.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day 💙

In care, we’re reminded every day that no two people are the same and that’s exactly how it should be.

Good care means listening, understanding routines, respecting preferences, and adapting to the individual. It’s about creating an environment where people feel safe, comfortable, and truly understood.

That’s what person-centred care looks like.

If you’re looking for support that’s built around the individual, we’re here.
