FIVE common ‘complaints’ we hear from owners👂🐾 Do these sounds familiar???👇

1️⃣ He’s managing long walks fine…BUT often look stiff getting up off in the morning.
2️⃣ She’s still chasing her ball like a puppy…BUT she’s stopped going upstairs as much.
3️⃣ He playful with us…BUT now less so and sometimes grumpy with other dogs.
4️⃣ She’s still excited to go for walkies…BUT she hesitates when jumping in the car more now.
5️⃣ Our vet couldn’t see anything…BUT we just want to double check all is okay physically.

⭐ Do any of these sound familiar?

Does it means there’s an issue? Not always, BUT changes in a normal behaviour is one of the key indicators that something isn’t right. Just because 90% of their life looks the same, what does that small change mean? 🧐

?? I want to check my pet is ok, what can I do?

Keep a note of whats changed a when.

Meet Ava 👋🏻 Hip Dysplasia Story!

🐾 Ava appears fit, healthy, and was completing day long hikes with her owner. But very occasionally, her owner noticed her getting up off her bed uncomfortably in the first step or two, which she would soon walk off! No pattern, no clear cause, but an incling she just wanted checking out.

🙈 Ava is a shy girly around people so hadn’t allowed her vets a thorough look, no issue was identified. Her owner heard about us from a colleague so wanted to our opinion too.

🦮 After slowly building trust to allow some hands-on, our physios were concerned regarding her hips. We fed back to the vet, Ava went for X-rays, and it was confirmed she had bilateral hip dysplasia.

🐕 Thankfully with early detection and trust in our team, Ava has taken to her treatments exceptionally. She is receiving a combination of hydrotherapy and physiotherapy, both in session and at home.

We’re so pleased with Ava’s movement patterns, comfort, strength and confidence, which is improving week on week! 🙌

🛑 Top tip: check out how her hind legs trail back past her hip joint. This movement (hip extension) is often uncomfortable and lacking in dogs with hip dysplasia. Ava has made fantastic progress!

Did you know we treat horses now too? 🐴🤔

Just kidding! 🤣 Look at this big beautiful boy we had the pleasure of meeting yesterday! Digby is a Great Dane, so is one of our larger clients, but thankfully our treadmill is generously sized. 😆

Looking forward to seeing him for session 2 soon! 🐾

📢 CHANGES ANNOUNCED TO TACKLE HIGH VET FEES 📢

The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced new reforms to improve transparency and competition in the veterinary sector after finding that vet prices have been rising at nearly twice the rate of inflation.

These changes should be good news for pet owners.

Key measures:

⭐ Prescription fees capped: Written prescription fees will be limited to £21 for the first medicine and £12.50 for any additional medicines.

⭐ Price lists: Vets must publish clear price lists for their services.

⭐ Price comparison website: A new independent website will be introduced to help pet owners compare prices and practices.

⭐ Ownership disclosure: Vets must reveal if they are part of a large corporate group.

⭐ Prescription rights: Pet owners must be informed that they can request a written prescription and get their ongoing medication from cheaper online sources (many could save £200+ per year).

The changes will start to come into force in late 2026.

🐶Bertie has been with us here at AquaPaws since he was 6 months old due to a birth deformity in his carpus which you can see in the top left images🐕

👎His carpal hyperextension caused general core and hind limb weakness.

💦Next step was focusing on hindlimb strengthening and core engagement to support his back and alleviate pressure from his carpal joints…

💪Now as Bertie is growing up he is stronger than ever and improving each day❤️

Hydrotherapy isn’t just aimless walking in a treadmill or swimming in circles around a pool!💦

Here at AquaPaws we take full advantage of our water properties to engage our patients in rehabilitative exercises by fully qualified veterinary physiotherapists to boost recovery outcomes!💦

Whilst your dog is in the water it is a great time on rest breaks between walking reps to engage them in specific exercises to target areas of weaknesses identified by our therapists💦
