As many of you know, Sarah's dad has been battling cancer. This was a battle he lost in the early hours of Wednesday 21st May. Sarah and her family are devastated and taking time to comfort each other as they come to terms with their loss.

Some people have asked about sending flowers; Sarah would instead be very grateful if you put the cost of flowers towards her donation to Cancer Research. You can donate yourself, in her dad's name: Barry Iley, or you can pop your donation into either branch and Sarah will send it all in one go.

You all know Daisy of course...well, she has an amazing doggy physio - Rebecca Heald Chartered Physiotherapist & Veterinary Physiotherapist (https://www.facebook.com/HealdPhysio) who is helping Daisy to stay mobile in her later years. Rebecca will be running in Race For Life on Sarah's behalf and in Barry's name, to raise more funds for Cancer Research. If you'd like to sponsor her you can do so here: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/cant-run-but-will-try?sfnsn=scwspwa Thanks Rebecca - you're a superstar ✨

Cancer will affect everyone at some point. Research is critical. Ideally to eradicate it, but in the meantime to understand it and gain better insight into life-saving treatment.

And finally. Please remember - if something doesn't feel right in your body go and get checked out. It might just save your life ❤

🐶 Our final tip: Ask your vet if a physiotherapy assessment could help your dog’s mobility.

An ACPAT Physiotherapist is especially recommended because they are human-trained before training with animals, i.e. experienced with patients who are able to explain the pain to us. They will create an individualised physio plan for your dog. Most of the recommendations can be carried out at home, but they might also suggest manual therapies to help with sore muscles, or hydrotherapy in an underwater treadmill to help strengthen muscles while being kind to joints.

Thank you for following along with our takeover! We hope these tips have brought you and your dog a little extra comfort and care ❤️‍🩹

Physiotherapy for horses, dogs and other small animals

I qualified as a human chartered physiotherapist from Teesside University in 2002 and went onto train as a Veterinary Physiotherapist at the Royal Veterinary College, London, qualifying in 2006. I treated both people and animals until last year when I decided to concentrate on animal rehabilitation. Animals really benefit from physiotherapy treatment, which involves lots of hands on massage and soft tissue tecniques, stretches, rehab exercises and techniques. All owners are taught and given an individual rehab programme and advised on environment, management and exercise. I treat animals with arthritis and age related concerns, dogs after orthopaedic and neurological surgeries and injuries. Horses with stiffness and muscular pain, poor performance to name a few. I work closely with vets in and around North Yorkshire and the NorthEast running clinics for vets in Cramlington and Darlington and have treatment facilities for horses and small animals in Welbury, near Northallerton. I also do home and yard visits.

Please do contact me for more information, animals only treated with vets consent, fully qualified and insured member of ACPAT (www.acpat.org.uk)
