This is why I’m opening my new YOOKANTOO Support Group, a small 8 week online community designed to offer our stuck stresses and emotions the freedom to be heard.

A community to re-connect back to ourselves and to others.

The fact is, human beings become
addicted to anything. It can be a substance, it can also be a behaviour. It can be artificial behaviours such as gambling, gaming or the internet. It can be behaviours that are central to human life, such as s*x or eating. It can also be to something commercial such as shopping. And yes, it can even be to something potentially beneficial such as exercise. It’s not what we’re addicted to that is the problem, addiction is an attempt to solve a problem, an attempt to numb loneliness, fear or heartache. Addiction is an attempt to stop pain and we ALL do it.

It’s all too easy to believe and soak in every fear-mongering, sensationalised detail presented to us by mainstream media. The problem is it can feed fear, bad news is like nourishment to the fear within us.

The good news is, we can choose something else. There really is good news out there to be celebrated too.

Our choices matter and they shape the way we perceive and engage with the world. And I wonder how much of what we choose to engage with is influenced by the state of our inner world?

Be curious about how you engage with our world.
Listen to your body and get out of your head. 💕

Emotions want and need your attention, they are our teachers showing us our true selves in a particular moment. If given space to just be here, and be felt, they come and they go. If we push them down they get stuck, linger and fester and control us, for some people this can be for a lifetime!😬

We can even identify as the emotion, they become our personality and we describe ourselves and others as emotions instead of humans living an experience eg “I am sad” or “my partner is angry”.

Remember you are not your emotions. Thoughts and emotions just pop up, they come and go like clouds in the sky. They are like the weather. Sometimes it’s sunny; sometimes it rains — sometimes you feel happy 😀 sometimes you feel sad 🥹. It’s not who you are, it’s simply a transient feeling. You are you. 💕

NB: Suffering arises when we ignore emotions, instead, let them be, respond to them and then witness letting them go. That’s emotional maturity.

Sinead’s trauma filled childhood was not only about physical and s*xual abuse but also relational trauma - trauma that occurs within a close relationship, for her, this was her mother.

Trauma is not what happens to us, it’s what happens inside of us as a result of what happens to us. 💕

Trauma disconnects us from ourselves, our feelings, our bodies, other people and the world. 🌎

Trauma shapes our world, our relationships and our nervous systems. 😧

Trauma keeps us locked in the past. 🔑

There is a way out and the ultimate goal of therapy is to bring people into the present moment so they know they are in the now and have full response flexibility. 😌

When we realise we are no longer constrained to a set of pre determined set of reactions then we have the freedom we were born to experience. 🫶🏼

There is a way out of the trauma prison.
