We were delighted to welcome Mike Reader, Member of Parliament for Northampton South to Three Shires Hospital to meet staff, doctors and patients.

Mr Reader took time out of his busy schedule to congratulate staff in person following the news that the hospital had been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the CQC.

On arrival, Mr Reader was taken on a tour of the hospital, led by Executive Director Matthew Cook. During the tour, Mr Reader met staff, patients and doctors who took great pride in sharing their stories and experiences with him. The tour included a visit to the imaging, outpatients, theatres and wards. During the tour, Mr Reader was fascinated to hear about the different ways patients from across his constituency were accessing treatment and services at the hospital.

Commenting on the visit, Matthew Cook, Executive Director of Three Shires Hospital, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Reader to Three Shires Hospital. We are incredibly proud of our ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating and the work we do supporting patients across Northamptonshire to access safe, effective and high-quality care in a timely manner.”

Our thanks to Mr Reader and his team for visiting us and congratulations to colleagues at Three Shires Hospital for their incredible CQC result.

Saturday marked a special day of celebration – World Radiography Day!

To highlight this occasion, our Imaging Team took the opportunity to fundraise for our chosen charity and raise awareness about the importance of having accessible defibrillators in the community.

We can’t thank our radiographers enough for their hard work and dedication in ensuring our patients receive the very best care possible. We also appreciate their thoughtfulness in sharing this special day with the OurJay Foundation to showcase the incredible work they do.

Day 4 of our Infection Prevention Week – we’ve had the best one yet! Judge our bugs in our yearly Bug Competition. Which bug was your favourite?

Matthew, our Executive Director, had the pleasure of judging this year’s competition, where all the bugs were made from recyclable materials found around the hospital. Additionally, our Housekeeping team, who won Best Creative, made cake pops to represent bubbles in the bath – how creative is that?

Yesterday , Gemma, our Infection Prevention and Control Lead, is highlighting the importance of thorough hand washing - and the areas that often need a little extra attention.

The aim of this activity is to show that, no matter how good your hand washing is, there are always spots on your hands and wrists that could do with a bit more care.

Both staff and patients have found the exercise insightful and useful. This activity is not intended to suggest that anyone washes their hands incorrectly; everyone has areas they might miss without realising it.

And of course, there are some fun perks too – biscuits, a bug key ring, and a bug pen. What’s not to love?
