Looking forward to the retreat weekend…..

Busy prepping for another weekend means there’s not much time for socials at the moment.

The theme for the weekend is self-care. And so it is only right that I pause from this space to focus on my own, before I start holding space for others to do the same for themselves. 🫂

It’s been a day of practice planning and getting clear about why we will uncover for ourselves over the course of the retreat.

No doubt there will be moments like this - cocooned, closer to the ground, resting and listening to body & breath settling.

We will honour the Autumn 🍂 season and the flux in nature as it continues to swirl in opposing directions. And explore ways of being grounded & stable but in kind and comfortable ways! 🫂

We will also recharge and revitalise through the healing combination of the sauna and sea 🌊

And everyone will have a chance to ease tensions physically and mentally thanks to my talented friend and massage therapist 💫

Mealtimes will be seasonal, nourishing and bring us together for meaningful encounters with one another, thanks to

And to finally say, we have one space left on this intimate retreat…would you like it?

Drop me a message if so, it would be great to have you there. The space is targeted at women because the room will be sharing with another female. 🫂

London Marathon 2024. It's been great working with a couple of clients this week on the run up to this year's marathon. Whether your goal is to finish with a smile still on your face or sub 3 hours this is a massive challenge. Here's to all previous finishers and the runners currently on their countdown! Hope your long run goes well this weekend!

Sports massage does not have to hurt to be effective, its a myth! Some techniques may be uncomfortable but I communicate with my client throughout the treatment to get the balance right. If I am causing pain, you tense up and we are just 2 opposing forces working against each other rather than working together to release tension, reduce pain and increase your freedom of movement.

Hydration plays an important role in the body's ability to function and heal. Maintaining proper hydration is crucial if you're recovering from injury, surgery or suffering from chronic muscle and joint pain. Dehydration can exacerbate chronic muscle and joint pain, slow the rate of healing and increase the chances of injury.
Proper hydration can help to reduce pain and protect your joints and muscles by keeping the cartilage soft and pliable, hydrating vertebral discs, preventing ligaments, tendons and muscles from becoming stiff and tight. Dehydration pulls the fluids out of your tissues, which causes overall aches and pains.
Having a massage puts demand on the body and you will utilise water faster so I will offer you that glass of water. You are welcome!

Kinesiology tape is a really useful therapeutic tool when your body needs a little extra support. It's a great medium term treatment which applied properly will last 5-7 days even if you swim or shower. This means you keep getting a benefit after leaving the treatment room.

I’m so lucky having a job where I help people and I’m appreciated. It really makes my day to receive a little text message or get a positive review. If you’d like to leave a Facebook or Google review that would be really grateful. Lois Wellness Sports Massage Therapy https://g.page/r/CdH105WhOCCREBM/review

Sometimes my treatment room is less of a clinic space and more of a relaxation room. This was very true today for my pregnancy massage client. I have treated her throughout her pregnancy and now she is nearly ready to meet her baby. Calm music, low light, relaxing oils, great smells, calm, relaxation.

The importance of strength training for runners has been discussed several times in clinic today and is definitely TODAY'S HOT TOPIC.
From my work perspective the major benefit is INJURY PREVENTION. If you can strengthen your muscles, ligaments and tendons then your body will be more robust to handle the overload that running puts on your body. JOINT STABILITY will improve too. It can help you with your overall STABILITY and BALANCE and reduce the risk of falling. An appropriate plan will increase you muscular STRENGTH, POWER or ENDURANCE which will aid your RUNNING PERFORMANCE. All of the points above will aid optimal movement pattern for performance, delaying fatigue and support a more favourable gait helping towards what I always talk about "FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT".
There is a lot of good free advice online and of course I can always point you in the right direction. Happy running!

A client presented in pain today with a lower back muscular spasm and sciatic nerve pain. He described how he felt after the treatment as “the difference is like night and day from when I arrived to now”. I’m glad I could help.
