Nice run around Northampton this morning.
Typical physio behaviour - kept my mind occupied during the run observing all the different running styles, foot strikes and types of footwear.
A reminder that there’s not necessarily a “right” or “wrong” way to run for most people. What’s important is working out what’s right for you and training appropriately: frequency, variety of training runs, strength work & nutrition.
Well done to everyone who took part!

Sometimes injuries are from intense sporting endeavours. Sometimes they’re not! 🤣🤦🏻♂️
The London Marathon is such an inspiring event! Elite runners through to people who may never have previously been a runner, but wanted to achieve something special.
Marathon's are achievable but definitely not easy! It can be hard to know where to start but there's some really good support out there. If you are thinking about running London, or anywhere else next year, now is the time to start!
The link below is to my latest blog where I give my thoughts and experiences from a runner and physio perspective. Take a look and get in touch if you have any questions or need support.

After an 18 year gap, filled with helping others complete their running goals, that’s marathon number 4 completed! A trail marathon through the lovely Salcey Forest.
Never had a 1st place finish before (and doubt I will again!) so very happy, but very stiff, today!
Great event hosted by the excellent Big Bear Events. If you’re interested in a new challenge then do check them out. A fantastic range of events with a strong focus on simply making it an enjoyable experience for all levels.
If you need help getting there then just get in touch.

Really interesting podcast interview with Hannah Irwin (GB athlete) talking about her experiences of running, training, nutrition and injury. Well worth a listen, especially for younger runners.
Seen a lot of half and full marathon runners this year working towards various events. Training can be tough (just ask my ankles - see pic 😬) but if it was easy then these events wouldn’t be an achievement!
Sometimes, building up training can result in pain and injury. There is normally a good reason for this. If you’re having problems don’t bury your head in the sand!
Get in touch and we can go through what has happened, why it has happened and work to keep you on the road (or get you back on the road if you’ve fully broken down!)

“The Amazing Northampton Half Marathon” done. Nice route. Well done to everyone who took part. 👏
An interesting training experience for me with an injury four weeks before the race. Fortunately nothing major but enough to disrupt the last few weeks of preparation. Modified training plan, adjusted expectations for the day and a slight change to running pattern and managed to come through it well 😅🍾🥳
Now time to let my legs recover and then on to the next one!
As an Arsenal fan I couldn’t ask for a better location for a sports medicine conference!
Great stadium with fantastic presentations by some of the world’s leading surgeons and physios.
Rehab is always evolving so there’s always something new to learn!

So, after a long time thinking about, and talking about, setting up my own physiotherapy clinic it has finally happened!
I have been a Chartered Physiotherapist since 2001 and thoroughly enjoy my work. I have been fortunate to work with many excellent physios and Orthopaedic Consultants over the years and decided it was time to establish a clinic of my own.
The idea behind The Ashby Clinic is simple. To offer a very high standard of physiotherapy, with an honest approach to treatment and number of appointments, and with a smile!
We can help with a wide range of problems, including: back pain; sciatica; neck pain; sprains and strains; sports injuries, running injuries and after fractures and orthopaedic surgery (such as ligament or tendon repairs, key hole surgery and joint replacements).
So if you are struggling with something then why not get in touch? You can send us a message, or book yourself an appointment online via the website (www.ashbyclinic.co.uk).
