Whilst people practise cat/cow, I often see big movement through the neck but little movement through the spine. When you're next in a yoga class, think about moving from the base of the spine first!

This is even worth trying for those of you that are in and out of yoga classes all the time! It's open a shape we move through very quickly without much thought. The question is, can you start your cat/cow from the pelvis?

Sometimes, we need to think about the exit plan over the grand entrance.

We spent a lot of time getting into poses but there's not always enough time and attention on the how to exit. Yogic squat (or squat pose or malasana) is a great example of this! A lot of people look at me like I'm crazy when I demonstrate this pose. However, they warm to the idea a little more when we discuss how to exit the pose into a really familiar shape that we practise time and time again like tabletop!

Regardless of how often you've practised this pose, the next time you're there, give this exit a try and let me know what you think!

I love a simple yoga sequence! Something that you can rely on regardless of how you're feeling. It can be the entire practice or a great place to start 😍

There's not going to be a set theme for this month as everyone gets really, really busy. Instead, I'll be checking in with you all to see how the collective energy is before we commence with our yoga practice. That way our practice can adapt to what you need.

I'll see you on the mat in December! πŸŽ„πŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™‚οΈπŸ’™

I’m quite confident saying that we have just come to the end of one of my favourite months of teaching yoga in 2025. It has been an absolute joy sharing Inner Architecture in my classes... Hit the link to keep reading my latest blog post!

This month, we explored Inner Architecture together β€” alignment, strength, and those β€œstrong edges” that shaped our practice. From movement drills and sun salutations to breaking down extended side angle, peaceful warrior, and wide-legged forward fold, each week built on the last. It showed ho...

I don't know about you but each moment of busy needs to be balanced with a little bit of quiet. I've learnt that after plenty of years of go, go, go.

This whole teaching yoga thing is an absolute joy. I have so much fun sharing these classes. This shift into alignment and strength has been refreshing. Just so you know, right now, there are only three spaces left for Find Your Yoga Practice on Wednesday.

So, after a busy week, I know when it's the right time put my feet up. How's my weekend looking? A couple of gym sessions, movies and a whole lot of time doing as little as possible. How is your weekend looking? Anyone seeing Wicked: For Good? πŸ’–πŸ’š

Another great week of Inner Architecture (our November yoga theme) 😍 This week we took the time to deconstruct and explore a wide legged forward fold, which felt absolutely brilliant following all our preparation. It's been een a minute since I've managed to walk my hands back in line with my feet and let my head rest on the ground. πŸ’ͺ🏻 Thanks, everyone πŸ’™πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

I recently had someone new joining my in-person yoga class and this was a highlight of our post yoga chat. They said just how positive this suggestion was for someone who found staying still quite challenging.

I've included this in my movement/asana based classes for quite some time. It took me a little whilst longer to find the time to edit my master Yoga Nidra script but now I have I'm honestly over the moon about it. When I first shared the edited script, it feel like something just clicked into place.

Summary of this: when you're practising, if movement brings you comfort then embed that within your practice. I don't want you to feel frozen in those moments of stillness because you might just be tensing up and holding your breath. Wiggling of your fingers/toes or swaying your head doesn't impact anyone else in the room but it might just help you relax.

Thoughts? I'd love to hear them. πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’™

Welcome to Sam Turner Yoga

I started teaching beginners classes in Northampton, Northamptonshire designed to be accessible, yet challenging. These classes find a balance between strength, stretch and breath as my goal is to help students strengthen the body, experience breathing techniques and a mind-body-breath connection. Classes are structured to start with simple warm-ups, moving through poses as we identify and experience movements that prepare everyone for the peak pose of the class. We then begin a warm down as we prepare for relaxation. I have a personal interest in anatomy and injury which is growing with research and training and is weaved into my classes.

As my beginners have evolved, I have changed my Monday classes to a mixed ability class. This has opened a space to introduce a new beginners class that will be joining my schedule on Thursday evenings from 2020.

I want my classes to offer the same benefits that kept me going to yoga in my second year of university. It helped me escape from the intensity of my studies once a week and counteract time spent at a desk. After attending regular classes, I decided to deepen my knowledge and practice by starting my 200-hour teacher training in September 2018, at Whitespace Yoga Studio in Stony Stratford. I completed my training and became a qualified yoga teacher in November 2019.
