Champion Bowler of the Year 2025

The culmination of our monthly carpet bowling sessions for 2025 came to a head, with some 12 bowlers who had been monthly winners or runner-up qualifying to take part. Unfortunately, due to illness, we were five down. Despite this, the morning play-off had some incredibly tight bowling, with exciting head after head.

Our top three bowlers of the year were Hugh who had won twice and was runner-up once, Francis who had won twice and Brenda who was runner-up three times. Although our monthly winners do receive a trophy, it really is the case of enjoying the taking part, with anything up to 16 bowlers a month enjoying the fun mornings and the tea, coffee and Caroline's homemade bakes.

The St. Christopher's Care Home Champion Bowler of the Year 2025 was Joe, who was presented with the Beryl Jafkin Trophy by Beryl's daughter Jill Alexander, along with a Winners Medal and a small bottle of Fizz. Runner-Up was Cerys who was presented with a Medal and a small bottle of Red Wine also by Jill.

Thanks go to our valiant Volunteers Anita, Billie & Denise who make the carpet bowls mornings possible. I just couldn't manage without them.

A busy couple of weeks at St Christopher’s which started with a staff training event which involved 32 members of staff. A large van was parked in the Car Park to give the staff a virtual experience of what it might be like to be suffering from Dementia. It also helped them to understand what simple changes could be made to ther practice and the environment to really improve the lives of residents with dementia. The feedback from staff was very positive and everyone really enjoyed the experience.
