We have had the most wonderful afternoon with Rebecca Done this afternoon. Rebecca joined us to sing her War time classic set and boy did we have a good knees up!

Rebecca had everyone singing, dancing, and tapping their feet as she sang us through the war. We had a competition of who could sing the loudest. We split the room into two with Mel leading ‘the Kitwood Bombers’ and Katie leading ‘the Kitwood Darlings’ the Darlings being the winners.

We sang our hearts out to ‘White cliffs of Dover.’

Such a wonderful afternoon remembering our veterans. Lest we forget.

Today is Remembrance Day, a day to remember and honour those who sacrificed their lives to give us the freedoms we have today.

Over the past few days, we have done many remembrance themed activities , we held a Remembrance Day-themed Art Therapy session led by our Art Therapist Jane from Creative Mojo. It was amazing to see how many residents took part, inspired by the purpose of honouring our veterans, our War Horse picture has captured everyone’s attention and we have had some wonderful comments on just how beautiful it looks on display in our reception.

Yesterday we held a Remembrance day cafe, a place for residents to come and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with a cake and to reminisce about the war and memories they had of family members going off to war, whilst they stayed with their grandparents until their return.

Some of our residents tuned in to watch the Remembrance Sunday Parade led by our King, and this afternoon we had a wonderful sing a long with Rebecca Done singing ‘You are my sunshine’ and ‘Bless um all’

Over the weekend on Northern belle,the care team gave residents a choice of books, magazines and papers to read and all had a quiet afternoon sat having a coffee and biscuits.
Then one of the lady residents wanted to help and washed and dried the cups with the help of the care team.
Thanks Kelly and Lisa this is so meaningful for this lady to keep busy.

This afternoon we had a fantastic Sport Therapy session with Tilly.

We worked with residents 1-1 adapting the activity to each residents abilities.

Some residents worked hard on hand eye coordination, some on leg muscles and others worked their arms and hands.

We have Rise Sport Therapy every 2 weeks and we just love how engaged our residents get in the activity.
A fantastic session today had by all.

This morning one of our gentlemen asked to see Well-being team member Katie.

He asked Katie if she could do him a ‘big favour.’ Could she nip to the shop and get ‘a nice bunch of flowers with roses in and a card?’ Katie asked if it was a special occasion, to which he replied ‘No I just want to surprise my wife, she’s a good wife and I love her so very much’.

With that Katie fulfilled his wish and got him a bunch of flowers with roses in and a card and took them back to him.

Katie then sat with him and he asked if she could help him write some ‘special words.’ Katie wrote exactly what he wanted to say and they sat together waiting for his wife to arrive. He was so excited and asked Katie to tell him when she was here and laughed when he said he might serenade her when she walks in.

His wife was very surprised and moved by his kind romantic gesture.

What a beautiful moment and special morning had by this wonderful gent.

We have created some beautiful Poppy crafts at Kitwood House today.

We made finger print poppy canvases and colourful poppy pictures to display around our home.

We also enjoyed sharing stories of when family members were in the Army, and how some residents wouldn’t see their parents for months and lived with grand parents whilst their dads were off serving the country.

It’s always so interesting listening and learning about our resident’s past.

This afternoon we had our choir practice with Maggie.
Today we held a Remembrance Choir and sang all the songs from War time.

The residents were also offered Poppies to wear. The choir was absolutely beautiful we sang ‘pack up your troubles’ and ‘white cliffs of Dover’ as well as ‘bless em all’ and of course ‘we’ll meet again’ , it was lovely to hear so many residents and team singing along.
